I was in my local shop queuing up & the cashier made a comment to another staff member to change his appearance to look more black/mixed race in order to get more time off work ( maybe certain days)

The cashier said “the person who works here is “coloured” and gets certain days off.

Firstly the word coloured highly offended me, then I thought why would you need to point out ones skin colour why does it matter & how does it relate to getting certain days off work?

I don't get it. Don't think I'm thick but sometimes I miss the obvious.
It sounds like an odd thing for someone to say to another but I doubt it was meant to be racist, whatever she did mean.

If they mean Eid etc then usually people either book those off or swap for things like Easter and Xmas. They don't just 'get them off' and yes it's racist.

Yes, completely racist. "Coloured" is a racist word that is not appropriate at all. To say that someone should change their appearance to get more time off and use their race to do so - of course this is racist.
