Posting here for the vote.
An ad popped up on facebook (yea the horrible place) claiming that only 2% of cat owners recycle. How do you dispose of the stuff?
So vote

I flush, is that counted as recycling?

slashlover · 22/10/2019 15:02

My cat litter does in the general waste but I recycle everything else that can be recycled.

You should never flush cat litter!

Sexnotgender · 22/10/2019 15:03

You should never flush cat litter!

Why? It specifically says flushable on it.

LST · 22/10/2019 15:03

You flush your cat litter???

LST · 22/10/2019 15:04

What brand of cat litter? I'm intrigued?

Sexnotgender · 22/10/2019 15:04

It’s oko plus.

ffswhatnext · 22/10/2019 15:05

Why not flush?
Drains aren't designed for it. At most, they are the same width as a can of beans.
Cat litter/pooh cannot be treated properly and the toxin in the pooh is a risk to other animals.

How is domestic cat poo different to wild cat poo or fox poo?

HeatedDryer · 22/10/2019 15:10

We use wood pellets and they get composted. The odd poo gets bagged and binned but they mainly use it for overnight wees.

Brandnewshit · 22/10/2019 15:10

How do you recycle cat litter???

ffswhatnext · 22/10/2019 15:16

Remove the shit, wrap and contact your local recycling centre.
Alternatively compost at home.

I flush the cat poo down the toilet after scooping from the litter. The cat litter gets changed completely once a week and is wrapped and put in the general waste. Should I be doing it differently?

I dont flush their poo down my toilet either!

I Think there's something in cat poo that isn't removed in sewage treatment so you arent supposed to flush it. My recycling centre doesnt take cat litter so it would get put in a bin bag in the general waste bin

user1471430558 · 22/10/2019 15:38

Cat poo should not be flushed. The parasite is toxoplasmosis. It cannot be treated by STW and may enter the aquatic environment infecting mammals (it’s been found in dolphins).
Also there is a chance the litter may block the sewage system - as with wet wipes, just because something claims to be flushable doesn’t mean it is (or should be).

I use wood pellets so they either go in the compost (in our high-temp composting bin) or get burnt on a fire in the garden.
