To ask what weird things you do

This has probably been asked before but I've not been around that long, so don't shoot me! I'm out on a dog walk and unintentionally I kicked a conker along the path with my left foot. I then spent the next few minutes looking for another conker to kick with my right foot so it "didn't feel left out"!?!? Please tell me I'm not the only weird one out here, what utterly random shit do you do? Please........Grin

@Cattenberg* If an embarrassing or upsetting memory comes to mind, I want to say something weird and random to block it out.*

I do this too! Usually I say a rude word under my breath but occasionally I say it out loud by mistake and have to make up a reason why I said it to DH.

itssquidstella · 24/10/2019 23:19

Oh I don't do this so much anymore, but when I was a child and teenager, I would hold my breath as I was walking past anything I considered ugly (cars, houses, even people, shamefully).

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 24/10/2019 23:49

@ShowYourselfLucifer, the rituals that prevent bad things happening are a part of OCD which is anxiety related. Have you ever explored Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? Might be worth investigating.

Dislocatedeyeballs · 24/10/2019 23:57

Pick n bite lips, rub tongue on gums till they hurt but in a good way???!!! When reading magazine I like to make a fold in the thicker pages to make a noise and make a mark on page it is strangely satisfying and annoying apparently. I fiddle with my ears and agree folding lobes is nice n squishy, count angles like sides of doors how many walls in room like the left, right, top bottom of the wall or sides of a picture/window mirror no idea why I do this or what it achieves not an obsessive ocd type thing I just do it!

OVienna · 25/10/2019 00:02

@ChristineBaskets that is so funny.

Instagrrr · 25/10/2019 00:04

If I’m going something repetitive, I get a repetitive narrative play in my head, usually something someone has said before and what I’d reply to them.

I’ve noticed my eldest does this but with music, he will sing the same song lyrics or sing a certain song. If he’s excited it’s the Alton towers theme tune. He’s asd so not sure if it’s a trait or if we are both just a bit weird 🤷🏼‍♀️

Instagrrr · 25/10/2019 00:07

I also have this awful thing where just as I’m dropping off to sleep I imagine something completely horrendous happening, like being trapped in a car which is sinking underwater or one of the children falling off the edge of a building. It makes my heart race like it’s really happened - it’s almost like a compulsive thought? God that sounds so weird 🤪

Goldenhedgehogs · 25/10/2019 00:20

Tried the earlobe thing and sadly did d nothing for me. I am sadly disappointed. Sucking water through a used flannel, that is a true thing of joy and comfort. Started when I was about five and continued in secret for forty years! Tastes yummy

brittabot · 25/10/2019 00:21

My weird thing is that I pull my hair out, one at a time, and run it through my teeth. I don’t do it often now unless I’m stressed but used to a lot.

brittabot · 25/10/2019 00:24

Oh, and as for earlobe thing. My husband and DS1 have very foldy ears - DS2 and me have rigid ears that don’t fold at all.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 25/10/2019 05:41

@bananallamas I do this too! I thought I was the only one.

We’re all mad Grin

Newstart571 · 25/10/2019 06:06

I draw the shape of furniture with my fingers. I also count colours.

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 25/10/2019 06:42

If I see someone with goofy teeth I have to pull a goofy face.

cookiemonster5 · 25/10/2019 06:55

@YelloThere finally someone like me!! No one has ever understood this about me. I hate off numbers but to me 5 isn't off because it's in the middle don't like 4 or 6 but 2,8 and 0 I'm fine with.

Finally I don't feel like the only weirdo in the world lol

BillywilliamV · 25/10/2019 06:58

I always say “Good Morning” to my neice’s graduation picture when I open the curtains in the morning.

IScreamForIceCreams · 25/10/2019 07:05

I add up the numbers in number plates. If it's 25 total, I then add up the 2+5=7. Or I count the letter "e" on signs etc. If i need to pass a tree, bollard or whatever (obs when walking), I need to decide if I pass it on the left or right. And then go for the opposite!

dogseggs · 25/10/2019 07:24

OMG ChristineBaskets I do that loud squawking and swearing at cringey memories too! I have never told anyone before because it is so weird. If a bad or embarrassing memory pops up in my head when I'm driving I'll shout FUCKING TWAT or make a weird sort of primal noise, a real full bodied raarrgh noise from the pit of my stomach, then carry on as normal. Only when I'm on my own, mind!

I also count my steps when walking the dog sometimes. I've counted up into the 1000s before and I'll keep a tally on my fingers of how many hundreds I've got up to so I don't lose track.

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only weirdo Grin

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 25/10/2019 09:11

I am LOVING the earlobe friends on this thread, thank you!

ShowYourselfLucifer · 25/10/2019 09:53

@SleepOhHowIMissYou

Oh really? There's 4 or 5 rituals that I have to do at least twice a day otherwise I think I'm going to die or lose DD.
I didn't think of OCD.

I'll look into it. Thank you Thanks

OstrichRunning · 25/10/2019 10:13

Brittabot I do the hair thing too! But I seem to seek out these bumpy ones I get sometimes at the back of my head. They're the best ones Confused

The other thing I do is try to make something someone said into six syllables. I hardly ever do this now, though I went through a bad phase of it. So 'The house is very nice' is a good sentence, because it has six syllables. But if someone said 'That house is lovely' I would silently change it in my head to 'That house there is lovely'. That way I can tap it out properly with my fingers.

Confused Confused Confused

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/10/2019 10:23

I do weird maths on the treadmill eg. I'm running at 10km per hour, how many meters per second, how many miles per hour, how far will I go in 30 seconds, how long to run 100m. Then when I increase my speed to 12km per hour, I do it all again. I'm shite at maths, so it's very stressful and confusing and I never really know if my sums are right. Funnily enough, I have never considered working all this out when I'm not running which would seem like a simple solution.
I think it's a very niche sort of ASD or even an OCD type thing, I have always been rather obsessed with numbers and patterns and the rigidity of them, despite being terrible at maths.

When I was a child i would be very interested in symmetry, foot taps, breathing patterns etc especially while falling asleep

I also get a genuine frisson of joy when I check my clock and it's 22:22, especially when I am not expecting it /thinking about it. It happened last night!

December2019 · 25/10/2019 10:25

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and I have the urge to suck water out of just washed towels out of the washing machine 😂😂

BlastEndedSkrewt · 25/10/2019 10:44

If I spin around to the left I'll then have to spin around to the right otherwise I feel wonky

3catsandcounting · 25/10/2019 10:45

If I mis-type something on a keyboard, and press delete, I get really cross with myself if I go too far back and 'waste' letters that are actually correct.

Dizzywizz · 25/10/2019 10:48

@Goldenhedgehogs I used to do that when I was little!! Agree it is yummy
