To ask what weird things you do

This has probably been asked before but I've not been around that long, so don't shoot me! I'm out on a dog walk and unintentionally I kicked a conker along the path with my left foot. I then spent the next few minutes looking for another conker to kick with my right foot so it "didn't feel left out"!?!? Please tell me I'm not the only weird one out here, what utterly random shit do you do? Please........Grin

How long have you got?

I try to chew my food evenly, e.g. I’ll wash an even number of blueberries for myself, and eat them in pairs of a similar size. I’ll try to chew one on the left side of my mouth and the other on my right.

I often feel sad for inanimate objects if they get lost or broken. I wonder if DM is responsible for this. I hear her expressing pity for toys to DD if DD has “left them out”.

I have word-colour and word-taste Synaesthesia.

I enjoy maladaptive daydreaming.

If an embarrassing or upsetting memory comes to mind, I want to say something weird and random to block it out.

TricklBOO · 22/10/2019 22:02

When I’m driving, the car infront the last three letters of the registration I’m compelled to make up a name, like girls or boys name with surname with the initials of the three letters.

I think of a word with the letters but they have to be in the right order - eg MLG would be 'malfunctioning'. Longest word 'wins'.

NegroniOnIce · 22/10/2019 22:06

I "fold" up my earlobe and stuff it in my earhole when I am reading or similar. It feels all squishy and nice

Come on - how many of you just tried this? Blush Grin

Whatagreytdoggo · 22/10/2019 22:10

If my hair is tied up, when I'm watching tv or Just on my phone, I'll twist my hair around itself so much that my arm actually hurts. And my hair... it creates knots i can only wash out! 😅

heidbuttsupper · 22/10/2019 22:13

I talk to myself all the time!

Stormwhale · 22/10/2019 22:19

Mine are both drink related. When I get a drink of water I have to fill the cup half way, pour it out, then fill it up again and then I can drink it. If I don't it doesn't seem clean. I wouldn't do that if I was adding something to it like squash though, so it doesn't make sense.

I also cant cope with old drink being mixed with new. If there was an inch of my drink left, I cant have it topped up, it needs to be poured away and filled from empty. Strangely this doesn't apply to alcoholic beverages, just soft drinks.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 22/10/2019 22:20

I have a weird habit about food. I never told anyone until last summer when I admitted it to my DH and he says I'm certifiably an arsehole for this.

If I don't empty every single piece of sweetcorn out of the tin, or every bean from the tin, that I feel guilty for leaving the ones in there and that they won't be able to fulfil their destiny and will be so upset in the bin. I never leave anything in ones; I'd never leave one tomato in the fridge or one egg because it would be lonely. I'll never leave one slice of bread in the bread bin. I have no idea where it came from but it hurts me to even think of it.

PumpkinKing · 22/10/2019 22:20

Yello, I do the same thing with the car radio volume. Also on the TV as well. Has to be an even number.

If I make a drink or dish up dinner for myself and others, my cup/plate HAS to be on the right. It makes me feel very uncomfortable if it's not (sometimes I'll start making the tea and realise so then I'll move my cup to its rightful spot)

I have to sleep with the duvet over my head or the monsters will get me. I'm in my 30s.

BuildBuildings · 22/10/2019 22:24

I don't like to leave the last bean or bit of food in the can / packet before cooking. Like it's nof fulfilling it's destiny by not being cooked.

I had a chat with my old car about going to a new home when I sold him. (my cars have names but that's normal right?)

Chesntoots · 22/10/2019 22:25

If I mistakenly put a sock on inside out, both socks go into the wash basket. I wont turn it the right way round. Once it's off, it's off. Same when for some strange reason I put the wrong leg first into my knickers - they come off and into the wash basket too!

I also do the thing about compensating for knocking one elbow etc.

For most of my life I thought it was just me until I read about it on here.

pinkyboots1 · 22/10/2019 22:28

I talk myself through everything and I mean everything in my head and occasionally out loud.. if I don't then my anxiety really kicks in and then my internal narrative gets my angry at self! Hmm

MissMatchedClaws · 22/10/2019 22:29

I do the step thing, but with white paving stones. Have to find another one for the other foot, or it feels all wrong. It’s worse when I’m anxious.

bananallamas · 22/10/2019 22:32

I do something I've never heard anyone else say they do but maybe someone here does... when I hear or think about a phrase or sentence I type it out in my head like it's an old mobile phone, like when texting was first around, with the digits 1-9. My aim is for there to be a line of symmetry down the middle, so for example "hello! How are u?"Is symmetrical because the ! And ? are typed with a number 1. If the phrase I'm typing in my head isn't symmetrical then I add more words and punctuation until it is.

It is very weird and I still do this despite having had a smart phone for around 9 years i.e. I no longer write text messages in this way.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/10/2019 22:34

I can’t leave teddies/soft toys sitting along - you know so they are never lonely

I’m 46

OkayGoooouuuuuullllll · 22/10/2019 22:38

I count to 14 all the time. I also bite the inside of my cheeks constantly.

Casander · 22/10/2019 22:38

I've found my peopleGrin

The volume has to be on an even number, sake with stopping the microwave or the time when getting out of bed.

I clicked the door handle 3 times when I've locked it.

I talk to my animals and they all talk back in my head in their own voices and accents.

I don't walk on 3 drains in a row and I salute solitary magpies.

I don't like "furry" cups and plates, I physically can't touch them, same with chalk or paint Envy- definitely not envy

You'd think I was quite normal unless you lived with meGrin

TheSilveryPussycat · 22/10/2019 22:42

My DM used to randomly read out licence plates on journeys. So she'd say Stoogg, and it would take a moment to realise she was reading out STG

I have to eat biscuits writing side up, and toast from the bottom straight crust up to the best bit, the top rounded crust.

MrsBirkett · 22/10/2019 22:43

I just tried the earlobe thing, it does feel very nice but I can only do it with the left one! What kind of freak does that make me?

TricklBOO · 22/10/2019 22:48

I talk to my animals and they all talk back in my head in their own voices and accents.

I thought everyone did that! Except ours talk out loud .

MapMyMum · 22/10/2019 22:49

@BuzzShitbagBobbly I have just spent the last few minutes trying to fold my ear lobes into my ear...

PoptartPoptart · 22/10/2019 22:52

I count window panes on the outside of houses. Quite obsessively. I’ve done that ever since I was a kid. I’ve asked a few people over the years if they do it too and they always say no and then shuffle away as if I’m really weird!

Devonishome1 · 22/10/2019 22:52

When filling the car with petrol I have to make sure that the pennies end in an equal number before I can pay.

spagbog5 · 22/10/2019 22:53

*Fudgebrownie2019

I'm exactly the same with not leaving anything out/alone/ in a tin etc.
I feel so guilty and like they will be lonely without their friends- bananas particularly upset me if they're separated from the bunch/ family.
I'm glad I'm not alone

Milanimilani · 22/10/2019 22:54

I have to say Thank you to a cash machine when it gives me money.

I find it painful to walk back the way I came. Not if I have forgotten something, but if I do it in purpose. I have to get off the bus before my home so I do not have to go backwards.

JellyButton15 · 22/10/2019 22:57

@BuzzShitbagBobbly my daughter does this. She plays with her ears when tired but has now realised she can get them to balance in her ear holes and make everyone watch as they spring out 😂
