We moved house recently and our new house is coooold! Proper wind whistling through the gaps in every window in every room. Desperation led me to the warmth of John Lewis and in search of a warm jumper. Quick scout round - picked up anything chunky which wasn't screaming Christmas. After 10 minutes in the changing room, I had scratched my arms and neck raw, had alpaca fluff in my eyelashes, cashmere stuck to my lips and my eyes were streaming. Toast we're charging £175 for this hell.
Anyone else???

Lanolin in wool sets my eczema off. And avoiding wool is pretty easy. I'm glad to say that avoiding lanolin in eczema creams is also getting easier!

Underskirts are annoying. Cut lining out of loads of things. Tried underskirts/dresses separate and just as bad.
And wearing a vest under something that makes you itch to the point of drawing blood isn't going to do a thing.

Lockheart

I itch through anything thin Sad
I think I’d need several layers but I might give it a whirl. It’s a lovely dress.

DoctorTwo · 21/10/2019 23:15

I'm currently wearing a thick Guernsey over a short sleeved T-shirt and am not itching at all. It's lovely and warm...

ffswhatnext · 21/10/2019 23:16

Pardonwhat it was a gorgeous woollen dress that got me crocheting. Tried knitting but hated the noise of the needles.

goldfinchfan · 21/10/2019 23:18

It might just be the type of wool.
I can't wear alpaca or mohair but if its Lambswool or Cashmere I am so happy, warm and cosy.

VenusTiger · 21/10/2019 23:21

I have a lovely long thick cardigan I bought today sitting in the spare room looking unwelcome - realised it had alpaca wool in after I’d tried it on properly at home. Decided I’d buy a couple of nice long sleeved tops, but I’ve now decided it’s going back tomorrow. I want to wear my current tops with it! Also, it scratches around my neck.
My DH can wear it, full on 100% wool 😖
Love my fleece tights though I do.

Get yourself to Primark. Some of their super comfy synthetic lounge wear is like wearing a fluffy, soft cloud. It looks good too. I don't know why anyone wears itchy wool nowadays, there is no need.

StrangeLookingParasite · 21/10/2019 23:36

Cotton/cashmere and silk/cashmere are lovely and soft - cheaper than pure cashmere, too.

JaceLancs · 21/10/2019 23:40

I only wear wool, cotton, silk or linen
Preferably merino or cashmere for jumpers which are so soft
Any other mixes or man made fibres make me itch and scratch

zurigirl · 22/10/2019 00:35

I'm pretty sensitive to anything with wool but somehow the Zoe jumper from Fat Face is one that I find really warm and cosy even though it has a high wool content. Could be worth a try! (It's in the sale now though so your best bet if you want to find it would be to try in store, it's mostly sold out online...)

Otherwise, I have a chenille jumper from Pepe Jeans/Asos - and it is the cosiest thing I have ever bought! Really thick and soft and lovely. Would definitely recommend something like that. :)

TheSerenDipitY · 22/10/2019 01:34

try looking for Merino items, that is a really fine wool, used often for thermal and tramping, climbing clothing, expensive but very warm

GrumpyHoonMain · 22/10/2019 01:37

Silk underneath will help ensure the fibres don’t get through the skin.

Ermmmmname · 22/10/2019 01:53

I think I read a few years ago that there’s a certain treatment used in wool that many people have a reaction to (most often cheaper ones). I always thought I was allergic to wool but bought a lovely merino wool jumper from AllSaints and am totally fine with it!

ffswhatnext · 22/10/2019 01:54

If you sweat avoid silk.

Mintjulia · 22/10/2019 02:01

Lambs wool, yes.
Angora, alpaca, cashmere, no, itchy as hell.

mathanxiety · 22/10/2019 02:12

Even reading the words mohair, alpaca and angora makes my skin crawl.
Aran jumpers make me feel as if I've fallen into a termite mound.

I can wear fine expensive pure cashmere, and cashmere/cotton and cashmere/silk blends, and I have two Italian merino wool sweaters that I can tolerate but with a cotton or silk long sleeved undershirt underneath.

Monty27 · 22/10/2019 02:15

I love woollen jumpers but I always have a cotton t-shirt on underneath. I don't wear roll necks a) because of the itching and b) because they get make up on.
And of course wearing a t-shirt underneath means they only need washed once in a blue moon then too Smile
