A bit childish if he emphasised 'Cock' because he thought it was funny, but I wouldn't get worked up about it myself.

So he's childish, why would he be cringing though?

Because he's in his workplace, discussing s client and he stopped the flow of conversation to go "haha, COCK". That's usually followed by a silence from everyone else and a quiet "ok then...". I hope he feels a bit of an idiot.

You do realise the word has other meanings too? Like when you cock a rifle? Or are you so gutter minded your mind instantly thought ‘penis’? In which case I think you are the one who should be cringing!

Weird as.

I feel like people are deliberately pretending they don't understand.
Ignore it OP. The guy made a bit of an idiot of himself and probably feel a a bit silly if everyone just gave him a silent stare.

Op are you cringing at starting this thread to this reaction? 😂😂 totally joking btw.

I wouldn't have been embarrassed. I'd have given him The Look.

Maybe the bloke is known as Cock, like people called Walters might be called Wally or, indeed, singer John Osbourne is known as Ozzy.

As PP said, it's one of those words that will make a lot of people snigger, but it does have other mundane meanings as well.

These gentlemen don't seem to be cringing at their own names.

I get that he said cock. But I don’t get that he would be cringing and not want to look op in the eye again. He’s clearly not that type of person. Op is being completely dramatic about nothing

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

It's not about the name!!! It's about the grown man discussing a client in the workplace and then going "haha, it's got COCK in it" whilst everyone else in the office sits quietly thinking "are you 5 years old?.

YANBU. I bet he was a bit embarrassed after he said it.

There is an old and well known poem which caused many sniggers amongst schoolboys:

'I have a gentil cock'.

Where are you getting that from?

@Lulualla

Fair enough if that's how he laboured it, instead of just subtly hanging on the syllable.

He's got the mind of a 12yo boy. He probably pronounces someone's surname Williams as WILLY-ams. So no, he's not cringing, he thinks he's hilarious.

There is an old and well known poem which caused many sniggers amongst schoolboys:

'I have a gentil cock'.

They gave me a box of tin soldiers
To play with while I was in bed
I got bored with my majors and generals
So I played with my privates instead

This is the stupidest thing I've read on the internet in a long time and I say that as someone who sometime's trolls men's rights forums when I'm bored. Why did you make me read this with my precious human eyes?

@477964z

Because OP told us.
He said "cockrem... You know... COCK".

He interrupted what was being discussed so loudly say "you know, like COCK". Which is what little kids do when they are going "haha, it's got a funny word in it, ooooh".

I think everyone thinks the OP was saying "you know, COCK" to us on mumsnet. She was quoting the guy in the middle of the office saying the word "COCK" very loudly in a mocking way to laugh at a clients name.

I once worked for a very large company and an email went around to proudly inform us of the name of a new board member who'd just been appointed.

I don't know if the gentleman in question would have been hoping for the reaction from all of these faithful employees who, instead of being suitably impressed by the coming on board of this doubtless financial behemoth, were, as one, somewhat distracted by his name.

I don't want to be outing, but his name was not quite the same as but veeery similar to Ivor Boner....

Why do people say' You ok hun?' when they are just trying to be mean. It's like being in the playground. Plus I hate the word 'hun.' Like 'hubby' or holibobs.' Confused

Inspired by this thread, I've just bellowed COCK! in a booming voice. I pity my neighbours at times.
