Wanting to change DD's first name WIBU

F1oridasunshine · 20/10/2019 16:04

I've NC as this could be potentially outing if we go ahead with it.

Before DD was born me and DP had 2 names; Emily and Meadow. Meadow was by far our preferred name.

We were ridiculed for liking Meadow and told DD could get bullied so called DD Emily despite having reservations.

Although we like the name Emily, it is quite common. We did want something slightly different from a tradition name but thought the name would've grown on us by now but it hasn't and we both feel really disappointed we never stuck with our first choice.

We have discussed changing her name by deedpole to Meadow keeping Emily as a middle name.

Can I ask opinions on this? Are we being silly for considering this or should we just accept our choice and stick with Emily. I really want to change it but DP is worried about it now we have told friends and family her name.

So WWBU to change it?

DD is 15 wks old.

As you love the name, do the name change now, keeping Emily as a middle name

CAG12 · 20/10/2019 19:17

😂 u ok hun?

FizzyGreenWater · 20/10/2019 19:18

MEADOW

MEADOW

MEADOW

MEADOW

rainingallday what do you REALLY think, come on tell us properly what you think of the name MEADOW. I like it, I'm sure you do too secretly. It comes through in all your posts. Are you sad that you weren't called MEADOW, MEADOW, MEADOW? That must be it I reckon.

MrsBertBibby · 20/10/2019 19:18

Anyway OP, Meadow isn't my cup of tea, but if you love it, use it. Keep Emily as a middle (my son's middle name was his name for his first week) and enjoy.

misspiggy19 · 20/10/2019 19:18

Keep Emily. Meadow is bloody awful.

^I agree

rainingallday · 20/10/2019 19:19

Claggy and Pissygreenwater, no I am really glad my parents didn't inflict a ludicrous name on me.

Ta all the same HUNS. Grin

VenusTiger · 20/10/2019 19:19

OP, she may hate it and use her middle name, Emily, when she’s older.

I can’t visualise a middle aged woman called Meadow either, it just sounds weird, but she’s your daughter.

FizzyGreenWater · 20/10/2019 19:21

Oh Raining you are great. I might change my name to that.

Can I call you Damon O'Shea? It's got the same rhythm as rainingallday.

Come on Damon cheer up. You may not be called Meadow but you have other things to be thankful for.

Passmethepepsi · 20/10/2019 19:22

I wouldn’t change it.

I know it’s the parents choice etc but it is the child who has to live with it after all and not the parents. I’d be devastated to be called meadow. I have an unusual name and I absolutely hate it. I was picked on for it and to be honest it’s caused a little friction between my parents and I over the years!

rainingallday · 20/10/2019 19:22

@misspiggy19

But you are not allowed to say you dislike it, even though the OP @F1oridasunshine asked what people thought about her changing it!

If you do you will get mocked and derided, and scoffed at by the OP and a couple of her cronies who don't like to hear peoples opinions unless it matches THEIRS.

Personally I don't give a fuck what they say, and think they're hilarious. Very entertaining. Grin

But I just thought I'd let ya know.

Awww thanks Pissygreenwater! Ya know, the opinions of a nobody online, who I don't give a shit about, REALLY matters to me.

Grin

God bless ya.

Dutchesss · 20/10/2019 19:25

I've never heard of Meadow as a name but I actually love it. Change it while she's still so young.
For what it's worth, I've had friends call their children unusual names that initially I didn't like, I've grown to love the names and couldn't imagine the children being called anything else now.

Clownfish123 · 20/10/2019 19:26

Just change it. Ignore the comments saying it's an awful name. It's less popular so won't be liked by all, but it's your choice and you clearly prefer it, she's your daughter.
FWIW I love it and think it's nicer than Emily.

rainingallday · 20/10/2019 19:26

@Kazooboohoo

"Meadow"?

Grow up, XR twats. In good time the sort of morons who camp in Trafalgar Square are going to get a bloody good kicking, and hippy-dippy names like "Meadow" will signal who should get the biggest kicking.

Absolutely fucking PRICELESS!!!! Grin 😂

You know the more I think about it, the more I am beginning to think this is a piss take,. A jolly jape by the OP to see if people are daft enough to believe someone would call their kid MEADOW!

F1oridasunshine · 20/10/2019 19:26

@RickOShay 😂😂😂

@rainingallday If I agree with you we'll both be wrong 😂

Nor Sparkles and Lunar! Seriously who would call their kids such daft names???!!

Lunar was actually a very popular name which was regularly mentioned while I was pregnant and frequenting the pregnancy forum. Not my cup of tea tho but I never put anyone down for it. There baby, their choice. I wouldn't recommend you ever visit that forum 😂

The more people there are who give their honest and frank opinion - that Meadow is a ludicrous name for a child - the more likely the OP is to stick with Emily, and not inflict her daughter with such a ludicrous name.

Erm no 😂

Seems harsh, but they know deep down, that it's awful, and they actually did you a favour by changing your mind for you.

I haven't changed my mind Confused

My DC and their mates all range from their early 20s to mid 30s, and this generation rips the shit out of yoo-neek names.

So your DC rip the piss and are cruel to people who have names they disagree with? I think that is extremely shallow and says alot about your parenting! Confused
I have a DS who is 20 yo and a DD who is 19 yo and they wouldn't dream of being cruel to someone because of their name Hmm

Overall though your post did make me laugh out loud... the passion that shawn through was beautiful 😂😂😂

OP posts:
zzzzzzzx · 20/10/2019 19:29

I like it. Meadow is unusual and Emily’s are 10 a penny. 15 weeks is no time at all. People may be a bit surprised now but it will soon be the norm.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/10/2019 19:29

MrsBert

I wasn't scoffing at the name Tyne - I just said that I thought it was awful! I never made fun of the name (or the child!). And actually, I do think she was named after Tyne Daly, so well spotted.

carly2803 · 20/10/2019 19:29

meadow is cute at 15 weeks

its awful at 15 years.

id keep emily and use meadow if you really want it. then at least she can choose when shes older.

CAG12 · 20/10/2019 19:31

@rainingallday just why are you so passionate about this?! Im genuinely intrigued about where all this anger/passion is coming from

rainingallday · 20/10/2019 19:32

@F1oridasunshine

Anyway, if this IS serious, then I genuinely would not call my kid Meadow, but as I said, you seem to have made up your mind anyway.

So I can't the point in posting.

If I have offended you then I am sorry, but I am just being honest, and I think people WILL mock her with that name ..

JMHO.

I'm leaving now as I have to get ready to go out.

Peace out.

This thread has been funny to be fair.

As peoples posts are being deleted - it's probably best I am off now as someone will start reporting mine soon (probably!)

No offence intended to @CAG12 and @FizzyGreenWater I was only messing. Flowers

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/10/2019 19:33

I can’t visualise a middle aged woman called Meadow either, it just sounds weird

100 years ago, no-one would have envisaged Old People's Homes full of Traceys, Glendas and Sharons, either . . .

. . . but it won't be long

zukiecat · 20/10/2019 19:37

As a pagan I think Meadow is absolutely beautiful!

Emily is pretty, but Meadow is so much nicer

maddiemookins16mum · 20/10/2019 19:39

Meadow is not a child’s name fgs.

diddl · 20/10/2019 19:45

If you love the name so much, why didn't you use it at all?

Is it because you subconsciously thought that your mum was right about her being bullied?
