Confirmation Roi

A question My son is doing the aqe for a local Grammar we will be cross border students but his current primary in Roi will not allow him make his confirmation with the current sixth class, as he is only in fifth class which is equivalent of y7 In NI and in Ni they make it in y7 at age 10/11.

They want him to come back when he is in Y8 and study for confirmation with priest instead of in school just because we are finishing him in fifth class instead off sixth any suggestions how I can get around this. School says the priest made the decision.

Ah, tricky one. I’m thinking Derry/Donegal maybe? Correct me if I’m wrong. We are in NI, I know there is a facility for Catholics who attend state primary schools to join in communion and confirmation with local Catholic schools by way of a few extra classes. Is looking into doing this at a primary in the same area as the grammar school you’re hoping for an option?
Good luck with the AQE BTW, have you joined the Facebook group? My son is doing the AQE and GL, wishing for it all to be over at this point! Grin

@Lovewineandchocs Donegal/Tyrone
The principal of school made a mistake and asked priest wrong way round and I think he doesn't want to look bad and go ask the other way. Our priest is just new to the area and very strict. He is actually turning me off going to mass but ready now to go.
Good luck to your child with aqe we dont have the same competition for Grammar school they all get in it's just for grading.

Thanks Grin do you mean the school in Tyrone is streamed according to their AQE grade?
Fierce competition here in South Belfast, it’s doing my head in tbh! Grin Hope you get sorted with the confirmation, can you write a letter to the head of the Diocese or something?

I went to mass and spoke to priest. He said he can make it but not allow to join 6th CB class for practice but he will do it privately.
Yes in The Grammar I applied they all get in. It is quite small total off around 800 students in total.
The non Grammar has about 1800

That’s good, I’m glad he will be able to make it anyway. Hope he enjoys his new school next year Grin
