Paul Mason - MPs who 'lack moral fibre'

He has said on Newsnight tonight that any Labour MP in a leave voting constituency who backs Boris' withdrawal deal "lack moral fibre'.

So an MP who acknowledges a democratic decision of their constituents and tries to respect that decision "lack moral fibre".

He is such a pompous self righteous git. That's my opinion. What's yours?

I like Paul Mason. I agree with a lot of what he says, but he is dead wrong here. MPs should vote with their conscience for what they think is best for the country.

That said, I can see his point, it's a bad deal.

MPs should either vote as their constituency did or as they did.

Our local MP as done neither of those so far. He has voted for his own self interest in the form of the junior ministerial bribe he was given to get his vote.

I think I heard David Lammy on R4 this evening, as I understood he also has a leave voting constituency- but his view is that, it's his duty to act in the best interests of his constituents, even if goes against what some of them voted for. We don't govern by plebiscite in this country. What Paul Mason means, I imagine, is that any MP who, having a better overview of the issues (as one would hope, that's their job) concludes that leaving would be a mistake and yet- because of having a majority leave constituency- votes for leave- that person lacks moral fibre because they aren't doing what they believe to be right, they are doing what they believe to be expedient.
