To think more women want unscented sanitary towels than scented ones?

It comes up here often. And maybe there are some women who want scented towels (no judgement if you do!).

But I had to buy some pads in an emergency today and they were all scented. In the supermarket I have to hunt out the only ones that aren’t scented. It’s bad enough I can’t get Always Infinity anywhere any more but this is inexcusable - the scented ones literally burn my skin, I can’t be alone.

Who are these companies using for their focus groups? Surely women aren’t saying “yes, make all your towels scented please!”... are they?

So time for vote. If you had a choice and if all else was equal would you...
YANBU - prefer unscented pads
YABU - prefer scented pads

YANBU. TMI but the scent mixed with blood is VILE.

coconutpie · 16/10/2019 22:05

YANBU. The stink from Always makes me want to puke. I use bodyform- no smell from them.

EL8888 · 16/10/2019 22:06

Totally not unreasonable. It’s grim. Plus lm allergic to the scented ones

dementedpixie · 16/10/2019 22:06

You can smell them when you walk into the sanitary towel aisle. Most bodyform are unscented

SinkGirl · 16/10/2019 22:06

That’s the other thing - it’s not a nice scent is it? It’s like a car air freshener.

I’m not even going to get into how offensive it is that they need to be scented. If some women prefer scented ones then I’m glad they have the option. I’ve just never heard anyone say they would choose them over unscented ones so I’m curious.

Maybe Always, Bodyform et al will listen!

YANBU.

sausages75 · 16/10/2019 22:07

Totally agree! Burn me also. God knows why they are all scented!

angelikacpickles · 16/10/2019 22:07

The scented ones should come with a free tube of Canesten.

SinkGirl · 16/10/2019 22:08

Always Infinity are the only pads I’ve found that don’t take my skin off by a few days into my period, but there’s only one place locally that stocks them and I get through a lot.

I tried Bodyform, unscented but worse than even the Always ones. Cloth sanitary pads aren’t absorbent enough and exacerbate things.

I would just like to not smell like a hospital ward for 10 days a month on top of everything else!

Thankyou for this thread I didn't realise they come unscented... I assumed they all did I can't stand it. Will be buying body form from now on

Cathpot · 16/10/2019 22:09

Was thinking exactly this today. Sainsbury’s own ones in the grey packet are unscented

Merename · 16/10/2019 22:09

Yanbu stands at 111% currently! Confused And yes, air freshener scented all kinds of yuck. I feel the same about scented loo roll. I want none of these things near my vag.

user1471449295 · 16/10/2019 22:09

I hate them. Give me thrush and burn. I can only imagine a man inventing sanitary towels that are scented. What a fucking shit idea. And actually quite offensive

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 16/10/2019 22:09

I have had to do the same thing today, never used scented ones before and I'm 'sore' today and never had that before either. YANBU

dementedpixie · 16/10/2019 22:10

Kotex are unscented but only really available in discount chemists

YANBU, the scented ones burn my skin as well. IDK why they bothered to introduce them at all.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 16/10/2019 22:10

YANBU. I switched to bodyform because, as has been pointed out, they’re unscented for the most part but neither the shop nor chemist in my village stock them all the time so I switched to reusable. I’m aware not everyone wants to do that though. Quite why companies think we want dodgy smelling, thrush &/or general itch inducing pads is beyond me.

dementedpixie · 16/10/2019 22:11

Always sensitive in a pink packet are unscented I think

SinkGirl · 16/10/2019 22:11

My problem is that I need night time towels all the time so my choice is already limited. Why the fuck would you need scented towels at night anyway, even if you did think you need them during the day?

Again, if you’d prefer them that’s totally fine - I just don’t understand but would like to!

They give me UTIs and thrush all at the same time. I’ve had to take time off work due to Always changing my favourites to scented without warning. They should have to be labelled as such.

OhMsBeliever · 16/10/2019 22:12

The threads on here are usually overwhelming against the scented pads yet lots of women must be buying them for them to still be on sale?

I can't stand them. I stand in the supermarket with my nose right in the packs to check they aren't scented as the whole bloody aisle stinks so I need to be sure I don't get the wrong ones.

Bodyform are good. (Woooohhhhhh bodyform, bodyform for youuuuuu. Sorry. Grin)

doodlejump1980 · 16/10/2019 22:12

Yup the scented ones make me itch, but I’ve yet to find a Bodyform Pad that can take my super heavy flow. Sick of it ☹️

MakeLemonade · 16/10/2019 22:12

No idea why Always Infinity aren’t stocked more widely, they are excellent. I hope they have a social media bod watching these boards who can report back, we like unscented and stock more of the Infinity range.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/10/2019 22:13

They smell awful. It’s bad enough having a period but to smell like cheap air freshener is adding insult to injury.
