To feel like a knob

So I lit a candle for baby loss awareness. My 1 year old doesn't even attempt to go near it, only the second I look down to check my phone she reaches to the candle touches it. I look up and she's not even an inch from the flame. Thankfully she didn't touch the flame and no harm was done as I looked up just in time and stopped it happening.

I feel like a knob right now. Please tell me I'm not the only idiot to have done something like this.

Who were you making aware of baby loss? Seems an odd thing to do. But nothing bad happened, no one was hurt. Just move the candle somewhere baby can’t reach and continue with your day.

FedUp1850 · 15/10/2019 20:40

@INeedSleepToo sorry, I worded it wrong. It's baby and infant loss remembrance day, it was to remember the baby I lost and for other babies. I've blown it out. Just feel stupid.

Don't worry you had best intentions and toddler and the Wiley ways blasted in 😆
Keep your valuables, breakables and damaging objects high and your bouncy ones low - enjoy your baby and don't give it another thought - lesson learned

Alls well that ends well, lesson learnt and not a single hair on baby's head harmed....... try not to dwell on it!

Sorry for your loss Thanks

I'm sure most of us have had a momentary lapse and had a near miss. Don't worry, just learn from it.

Lighting a candle for baby loss awareness week is not an odd thing to do at all, don't be so rude.

Sorry for your loss

But where did you put the candle ? I often light a candle to remember ones that have passed but out of reach if the children, on the table or somewhere high up ?

SauvignonBlanche · 15/10/2019 20:46

I dropped wax all over my trousers from my #Waveoflight candle. Blush

FedUp1850 · 15/10/2019 20:51

@apple0pie I put it in the coffee table 🤦🏻‍♀️. I was watching her and she didn't go near it until I looked down. Feel really silly now.

Thank you, it was 9.5 years ago and I was only 17 so at time so was probably for the best but nonetheless it's a time in my life I'll never forget ❤

I'm sorry for your loss.
If it makes you feel better about the candle incident I was packing my house for a very sudden move, husband was working away so just me and 5 month old non-crawling baby.
Baby was on a play mat at the front of a large open plan house, I was packing boxes at the back of the same room (about 10 yards), left the room for 10 seconds to get some extra masking tape leaving the scissors on the box came back in to find my baby holding the scissors! I still don't know how he did it because he didn't crawl again for a month!

housebuyingistheworst · 15/10/2019 21:05

That's how they learn.

Grumpos · 15/10/2019 21:25

I’m sorry for your loss.

Don’t be hard on yourself, I was unloading the dishwasher the other week and just out the corner of my eye caught my young toddler wandering off clutching the pizza cutter Confused - you know, those sharp circular things!

It happens, no one is perfect all the time.
Just live and learn, next time leave the candle on the mantel or somewhere out of reach
