AIBU - Brexit woes

AIBU to put my head in the sand? We are supposed to be going away on a city break 1-3 Nov. Just checked ds passport and it’s only got 3 months to go.

I could try and get into London and renew but it’s going to cost ALOT and I’ve not really got any time free between now and then.

AIBU to put my head in the sand and hope for the best?

I don't understand what your lack of available money to renew your DS's passport has to do with Brexit.

Greatnorthwoods · 14/10/2019 18:47

Are you concerned about your lack of Brexit preparation? Or if your holiday will get canceled?

@theMustressMhor think it's because it's advised passports have 6 months on them in case of Brexit.

TheMustressMhor · 14/10/2019 18:56

Thank you for the explanation everyone.

I didn't know that.

Exactly. I don’t have a spare £160 kicking around for a one week turnaround passport. But if I don’t get it renewed ds might not be able to travel because his passport hasn’t got 6 months or more left.

Is it a risk you’re willing to take?

sunshine11 · 15/10/2019 22:41

So apparently you can't use the premium option (same day) for a child. The only option is the one week service. However first London appointment is Monday and I am away on business until Mon-Thurs next week. If I go on the Friday there's no guarantee it will come back in time (they say one week). Aargh. Will just have to risk it! Watch this space.

Why not renew it online tonight? They seem to be taking a week or less at the moment.

I had to get a new passport in June to travel to an EU country because the carrier I was using said they wouldn't accept mine with less than 6 months before it was 10 years old. Although its stated expiry date was 8 months away.

I renewed my pass port on line a few weeks ago. Whole process took only a few minutes and my new passport arrived 8 days later. I received text message updates which was helpful too.

I renewed DDs about 3 weeks ago online. It arrived 6 days later.

Should have said that I posted her old passport same day and paid extra for the postage to ensure they got it.
