To take a 12 year old to see the Joker

So exh ( separate 10 years) took ds 12 to see the Joker this weekend. Ds got scared before the film started and asked to leave, ds went back to his df and they watched the inbetweeners movie.

Ds comes home in a right state saying how he has issues because he over thinks everything and that there is something wrong with him. Why can't he do things like his db 14.

Is it just me or do other people think it's absolutely stupid to take a 12 with mental health issues and panic attack to this sort of film? Well any 12 year old!

Well it's a 15 so no, he shouldn't have taken him

CormacMcLaggen · 14/10/2019 18:23

Fucking hell, really inappropriate.

Adults have struggled with the violent film content!

Smellbellina · 14/10/2019 18:23

Saw it at the weekend, I don’t think I would show it to a 12 year old no, certainly not one with MH issues.

PotteringAlong · 14/10/2019 18:23

Well, it’s a 15 so neither he nor his brother should have seen it.

Nor should he have seen the inbetweeners movie which is a 15 / 18 depending on which version you have.

Babyg1995 · 14/10/2019 18:24

I've heard it's really disturbing for adults so it's no wonder your son was in a state.

Stuckinanutshell · 14/10/2019 18:24

Jesus. No. It’s so inappropriate for that age

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 14/10/2019 18:26

Violent content..

4 people get shot... 1 gets stabbed..

There's more violence in superhero movies, average TV shows, video games and Coronation Street.

DieSchottin93 · 14/10/2019 18:27

Did they actually get into the cinema screen?! Shock or did he ask to leave before they got the tickets/went through to the screen? If it's the former I'm shocked he got in as most cinemas I've been to have been quite strict about ID'ing people.

catwithnohat · 14/10/2019 18:28

I personally wouldn't have; very dark film with much nastiness (ie nasty personalities) especially for a young'un who's a bit fragile.

I didn't enjoy most of it but it was a really good portrayal of the Joker's slide into insanity and how the relationship between him and Batman came to it. Really good twist at the end.

Apart from the ability of human beings to be horrible to each other it was too sophisticated for a 12 year old (and probably for a lot of adults).

Aragog · 14/10/2019 18:28

DH and 17y DD saw it last week. They said it was a great film HOWEVER they could understand why some people have said it is too violent for a 15. Apparently it was very violent and definitely not suitable for younger viewers.

Gillian1980 · 14/10/2019 18:30

Joker and The Inbetweeners are both inappropriate films for a 12 year old imo.

PocketMoneyMonster · 14/10/2019 18:32

It's a 15 isn't it? So no he shouldn't have taken him. It's not scary but it's not appropriate. I didn't actually find the film as disturbing as I thought it was going to be, aside from the very violent and very graphic stabbing scene.

I don't think the inbetweeners is appropriate either though?! It's full of foul language and shagging.

halloweenismyseason · 14/10/2019 18:34

He got in and asked his df to leave after the trailers finished just before the film started.
No one checks tickets, it's a small and very expensive cinema.

It's not just the violence but also the fact the Joket has terrible mental health that leads him to kill!

YANBU
Inappropriate for under 16 imo

Popfan · 14/10/2019 18:34

YANBU for saying the Joker is innapropriate - it is hugely. YABU for apparently thinking the Inbetweeners is ok - it isn't. Also massively inappropriate for a 12 year old.

Pinkblueberry · 14/10/2019 18:35

I’ve heard that adults found the film quite intense and disturbing - definitely not suitable for a 12 year old, even one who is comfortable with more ‘scary’ content.

halloweenismyseason · 14/10/2019 18:36

I also don't think the inbetweeners is appropriate either, I really think he is extremely irresponsible but supposedly I'm just a killjoy

*"Violent content..

4 people get shot... 1 gets stabbed"*

Oh thank god I wasn't going to see it myself this weekend and didn't want to know 🙄😂

No OP, completely with you on this one, he's bang out of order! Poor kid

halloweenismyseason · 14/10/2019 18:37

@Popfan where did I say that???
I think it's even worse that on top of taken him to the joker he brought him home to watch that. I'm absolutely shocked at his behaviour

I would complain to the cinema as well, it is there job o stop 12 year olds, I know at 12 most kids in my year were watching 18,s. but my parents wre quite strict. I would have watched a 15 at home though.

megletthesecond · 14/10/2019 18:39

Your exH is an idiot.
All the reviews are saying how dark and bleak it is.

Pinkblueberry · 14/10/2019 18:40

And the Invetweeners movie too? As in the one where it opens with Jay talking to a sex worker online and then his mum walks in on him masturbating with chicken breasts... yeah that’s great for a 12 year old to watch Hmm your ex is an idiot.

Aquamarine1029 · 14/10/2019 18:41

My 20 year old daughter saw it on Saturday and was shocked that some parents brought their young children to it. She said many were clearly only 11, 12, or 13 years olds.

Nottheduchess · 14/10/2019 18:41

I’d say inbetweeners is worse for adult content and I think Joker is far too dark a film for under 15s.

Leaannb · 14/10/2019 18:42

My 16 yo was suppose to go see ot with his girlfriend Saturday nighy....Dh talked him out of it
