Cant you just....have a basic small child birthday party? They wont remember it

gwackywacky will cake, some sandwiches and nibbles (like pork pie, sausage rolls, mini quiche and crisps) be okay. And inviting a few relatives over?

Nothing! We probably used it as an excuse to make and eat cake and possibly did that with grandparents. But the child is too little to know what it's all about, so didn't bother with a party or anything like that.

@LionsTigersAndBearsAndPandas sounds bloody brilliant to me!

Went away for the weekend. Did lots of childfriendly things, soft play, museums with lots of toys/activities for little ones, out door stuff just the 3 of us. Stayed in a hotel, had picnics and played in the room. Ds loved it so we did it again for his 4th birthday.

Dd will be 2 next year and we're apparently having a party at softplay according to her big brother. So I'd definitely take the simpler option whilst you can because once they can tell you what they want...Ds is 5 in february and is already planning his party down to the tiniest detail (at a specific softplay, all class invited plus a couple of friends from other clubs he attends, what food he wants, dinosaur cake, balloons...he's a party planner in the making).
