BUTTER is the business

Thanks to Highfields I have rediscovered the joy of butter this weekend. Toast is DELICIOUS with butter instead of flora on it. Am thinking cupcakes will be twice as nice.

Sorry that was to @CAG12

FeckOffGraham · 14/10/2019 13:28

@CAG12

The company who owns Flora has said they will no longer have anything to do with Mumsnet. This is because they were under pressure from people who believe MN to be an anti trans "hate site".

Many people are very angry about this move, (including some of us who support trans rights and believe some posts on here definitely veer into transphobia, but who find it grossly unfair that the entire site has been targeted in this way).

If you CBA, have a read through the threads on AIBU. There has been a lot of discussion about it.

CAG12 · 14/10/2019 13:31

I agree that some posts on here are transphobic. Theres always 'trans woman arent woman' sentences. You're bound to get this on opinion sites.

For them to say the entire site is transphobic is a bit much.

FeckOffGraham · 14/10/2019 13:33

Absolutely agree CAG12, on both points.

NeedAnExpert · 14/10/2019 13:39

’trans woman arent woman'

Define “woman”.

CAG12 · 14/10/2019 13:42

@needanexpert I really wasnt looking to get into a debate about specific gender issues. My question was just about all this Flora business.

Thanks all for responding

inwood · 14/10/2019 13:45

@NeedAnExpert 'woman' generally has a vagina, labia, clitoris, uterus, breasts and ovaries. Not a penis, testes and scrotum.

Woman = female to most of the population.

Rocktheboot · 14/10/2019 13:50

woman=adult human female

female=sex that can produce offspring or produce eggs; distinguished biologically by the production of ova. or XX chromosomes innit

Only ever bought butter here, wouldn't dream of touching anything else.

Juells · 14/10/2019 13:55

Theres always 'trans woman arent woman' sentences. You're bound to get this on opinion sites.

But they're not Confused

How can anyone claim that they are? How can those chanting the mantra "TWAW" not see how insulting and diminishing and erasing it is to women, who have to deal with biological reality all their lives, to reduce womanhood to a feeling in a man's head? Confused

Janella · 14/10/2019 13:57

Thanks for the recommendations. FORMER Flora consumer here!

BrexitBingoGenerator · 14/10/2019 13:59

We had butter in France that had salt flakes mixed into it and, oh my life, it was heaven.

Am off to make some butter on toast now...

Ereshkigal · 14/10/2019 13:59

Theres always 'trans woman arent woman' sentences.

Yes, obviously. Because it's a statement of fact Hmm

Hidingtonothing · 14/10/2019 13:59

We've always been a butter only household, I have used Stork for baking on occasion but won't be in future. DH's gran used to put butter on chips ffs (which might be taking it too far even for me) and my own gran referred to marg as 'artificial rubbish' so flora products are no loss to us Smile

Ereshkigal · 14/10/2019 14:00

Yes it's lovely. Easy to make with good butter and sea salt crystals.

TottieandMarchpane · 14/10/2019 14:01

You can get that in Tesco @BrexitBingoGenerator - it’s in their Finest (or whatever) range.

Ereshkigal · 14/10/2019 14:01

Chip butties thickly spread with butter though!

FeckOffGraham · 14/10/2019 14:04

Ugh, I hate getting into this, but womanhood has come to mean more culturally and psychologically than just biology.

Have you ever seen All About My Mother, the Almovobar (sp?) movie? In that, they deal with motherhood and all that it means. It is more than just the woman who was pregnant with and gave birth to a baby.

For most people, womanhood has a similar meaning. You can be born with a uterus and be a woman, but, imo, you can also be a woman if you were not born with those particular bits. And, having witnessed a trans girl who struggled so much when they were called a boy, it absolutely does happen and it's so much more than just liking dolls and pink. It's that they are certain, from a very young age, that they are girls and it is very distressing if anyone tells them otherwise.

I don't necessarily agree with suddenly introducing hormone blockers for young children, but, for me, it is too much to say women are ONLY the ones who were born with a vagina.

Now, let the blood bath commence Wink. Take me to pieces you vipers Grin. I really care not.

But, I think we can all agree that Flora can go and fuck itself to the far side of fuck and beyond 🖕🤢 (that's to Flora).

Sgtmajormummy · 14/10/2019 14:05

Kerrygold is high status butter.
Because the cows are grass fed and live a healthy outdoors life their butter is highly regarded by low carb, bulletproof coffe drinking keto gurus.

Living in a country where you hardly ever see cows grazing I can well believe it.
I just buy the Lidl Irish butter knock-off, though.

FeckOffGraham · 14/10/2019 14:05

Almodovar I think, sorry.

Ereshkigal · 14/10/2019 14:10

Not going to rip you to pieces. I just don't find your argument at all convincing. Why do these troubled people need to be considered as bona fide the opposite sex? They are not. Woman has a clear meaning. Female people. Disorders of sex development are not relevant. It makes no sense to claim there is some nebulous alternative definition of "woman" that no one seems able to define. The only one that isn't based on stereotypes is the biological one.

LaurieMarlow · 14/10/2019 14:11

Me too. It’s excellent and half the price.

KUGA · 14/10/2019 14:12

Butter on digestive biscuits is the bees knees.
And toast/bacon butties/crumpets .
Off to make bacon buttie..

FeckOffGraham · 14/10/2019 14:12

@Ereshkigal

Thank you! What a nice viper Wink.

You don't have to be convinced by my argument. I'm not convinced by yours either, so there we are.

I've already quoted Locke on another thread but I'll say it again that I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Hidingtonothing · 14/10/2019 14:13

Chip butties thickly spread with butter though!

Yes Ereshkigal! Butter on chips is actually delicious Blush, shame it's a heart attack waiting to happen Sad
