Confused as to what Turkey is hoping to achieve in Syria?

I’m confused as to what they hope to achieve here, as far as I can see they’ve made a mess & possible reinstated ISIS.

Penny for your thoughts?

I expect they are hoping to achieve genocide. Again.

They will say they are fighting different (I.e not ISIL) terrorists, with links to the PKK.

Turkey wants to clear enough kurdish people out, supposedly mostly military, so they can send back the Syrian refugees that reside in Turkey.

They say that the Kurdish military in Syria is connected to the PKK rebel forces currently active in Turkey.

But yes, they want to be able to claim the border.

The Kurds were allies with the US, but they've now withdrawn, so it's all systems go for Turkey. They've been itching to do this for two years.

Genocide pure and simple. My DHs family live rediciolously close to the Syrian border. You can see kobanr from their house. Erdoğan wants to get rid of all Kurds. 3 people were killed by a bomb in our village. One day later a boy was lucky enough to only lose his leg and not his life. 2 of those people were our family. They are Kurdish. The military said it was a mistake. However they had to turn around and aim for turkey for it to be a mistake. Our village has now been evacuated and soldiers using it as a base. We will probably not get our village back.

2 words. Ethnic cleansing.

Yep, they’re hoping to exterminate the Kurds. And the West is letting it happen. It’s fucking disgusting and I could cry.

I feel so sorry for the people who have been betrayed. As if they haven’t lost enough, most have lots homes & their families. How can everyone sit back and let this happen

@Wherecanwegetoff123 I’m so sorry to hear your family are caught up in this. How awful I hope the world doesn’t sit back and watch much longer, somebody needs to intervene and offer the Kurds some support
