AIBU to think it’s normal for cuts to bruise?!

I managed to cut myself on glass a day or so ago. It was healing up nicely and then randomly this evening I notice it had purple marks above and below it (not directly on the cut). Presumed it’s just bruising, even though it doesn’t hurt to touch.
The cut isn’t hot to touch, isn’t particularly swollen and is just a bit red around it.
DH thinks I need to go to the GP to get it checked out, he thinks it’s infected (and I’m pregnant so he’s extra worried). I think it’s fine and will probably heal up and the bruising will go down.

I cleaned it out immediately after cutting it, used TCP to do a second clean, and put antiseptic cream on it and kept it wrapped up until today when I left the plaster off. I was also cleaning up earlier and had my feet tucked underneath me while sorting some things so think that’s probably why it’s happened.

Seeing as I can’t do anything until the morning anyway, when the doctors opens I thought I would ask the wisdom of mumsnet.

I feel like it would be a total waste of a GPS time!

DH is worried because we go on holiday Tuesday so thinks I should get it checked just to be safe.

Well a bruise is just what blood in tissue looks like. So since you'll presumably have bled when you got cut, that's all it is.

Have you got a pic? I think it's quite easy to tell between infection and bruising tbh.

You could always nip to the pharmacy tomorrow and see what they think.

Unless the purple/red starts spreading - then you should get it seen to asap.

Excuse my gross foot. The bruising or whatever it is doesn’t look that bad to me?

I also had a blood test done Friday and that bruised today as well so I figured it was just my bruising timing!

Omg I was expecting a huge wound Grin

No, you don't need a GP appointment!

Has your DH never seen cuts and bruises before?

Bellasblankexpression · 13/10/2019 22:30

Hahaha thank you purple I think he’s just in super over protective mode. We know someone who lost a friend to sepsis recently and I think it just made him panic whereas I think it’s just a cut, I’ve cleaned it and put antiseptic on it, the bruising isn’t too bad and it doesn’t even really hurt.
I’m more likely to swing by the chemist to appease rather than bother the GP!

It looks fine to me. You probably just bled under your skin as well and it "sunk" a bit. That can happen with bruises.

Bellasblankexpression · 13/10/2019 23:12

Thank you, it doesn’t even hurt I keep forgetting it’s even there!
