Tattoos for sad memories

Just seen on another group I’m on that a kid is thinking about getting a bee tattoo when she’s old enough in memory of Manchester arena attack.

Why would anyone want to permanently mark their skin with such a terrible memory. She didn’t imply that she was there or lost anyone she loves. I too watched the news and it was just the worst and gave me a horrid sad feeling just like the London terrorist attacks and 9/11.

Every time she looks at her body she will be reminded of a truly dreadful event caused by an evil person. Why do some people feel the need to do that?

AIBU to think this is a bad idea for someone so young?

Why isn’t a memory adequate? Maybe I just won’t ever get it because I’m not a tattoo person. I’ve had my own personal tragedy over the years but never felt compelled to mark my skin as a permanent reminder of this painful event. My memory is more than enough.

@Moon108

Not really any of your business is it eh? Hmm

JacquesHammer · 13/10/2019 20:19

By that reasoning, why keep any photos of loved ones out on display? Why keep a memento of someone who has passed? Why visit a grave?

Good points. Why visit the 9/11 memorial?

Moon108 · 13/10/2019 20:21

No because visiting a grave or a memorial is NOT the same as tattooing my skin forever.

Gosh thank goodness you explained that OP.

Now why don’t you read again.

@whiteroseredrose

A colleague got her daughter's name tattooed on her wrist. I wondered if she'd forget the name otherwise!

Wow, what a mean and spiteful comment. Sad

You sound very judgemental, and not a very nice person at all... Hmm

whiteroseredrose · 13/10/2019 20:26

Rainingallday 🤣🤣🤣

SparklyMagpie · 13/10/2019 20:29

What's funny about that??

slashlover · 13/10/2019 20:34

What about the building of the memorial in the first place? Building a monument where thousands of people visit and residents who walk past are reminded of a truly dreadful event caused by an evil person. is surely no different than someone getting a tattoo that only a few people will see?

Butchyrestingface · 13/10/2019 20:35

I suppose this discussion has just raised more questions for me.

That's because you have all the sensitivity of a flying mallet. 🤷‍♀

Harsh,but fair.

weebarra · 13/10/2019 20:38

I've just made a date to have a tattoo over one of my mastectomy scars. It will incorporate ferns (the oldest plants), bluebells (gratitude and everlasting love) and forgetmenots for my sister who died in May.
Unfortunately, I tend to think about cancer most days, even though I'm currently well, and I think about DSis every day.
People can choose what they like, and that choice can symbolise anything they want it.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 13/10/2019 21:32

You must be in the same group as me @Moon108 as I saw the post too.

I’m from Manchester, born and bred and Manc to the bone. I have friends who were directly affected by the bomb and my best friend is in the Police and supported the bereaved families.

I did idly wonder why have a bee tattoo two years after the event when you’ve no connection to Manchester or what happened, but each to their own I suppose. I’m tattooed myself and people may think mind are strange but I’m not arsed.

Not the best comment BUT I have these thoughts with DC names or date of births tattooed.
I'd get it if the person has passed away.
A local lady has 7 DC each name and date of birth tattooed down her arm. Hmm
I have 2 small ones, DP has many.
