AIBU Weird Phobias

What weird phobias do you have?
Mine is loose hairs touching me. If I have a hair down my top it drives me insane and I know straight away when there is one or if one touches me in the bath, I have to fish it out straight away. Even a stray hair attached to clothing and sometimes I have to physically stop myself from pulling them off other random people's clothing as that would probably be seen as beyond weird!!!! I hate them.I have long hair but they don't bother me while their still attached to my head! Just loose, stray ones attacking me. DH says I'm very weird. That is my only strange, compulsive thing though. What's yours?

Cotton wool. The little raw balls of it creak and the noise gives me goosebumps. Tissue paper does it every now and again, sets my teeth on edge.

CormacMcLaggen · 13/10/2019 15:59

Anything paranormal. Severe phobia.

Campervanlife4me · 13/10/2019 16:00

Butttons I don't mind other people's hair touching me, as long as its attached to them. Grin

Anything velvet. I don't like looking at it and the feel if it puts my teeth on edge.

If you have a crushed velvet sofa then I can't come in!

(1) Distorting mirrors - or even looking directly into anything, like a metal tap,, that has a distorting-mirror effect; (2) My birthday- being reminded of it in any way.

Getoffmylilo · 13/10/2019 16:10

Teeth on wool, spiders, the smell of antiseptic like Savlon, butter in sandwiches, contact lenses. Completely reasonable list.

Loving these responses.

Knee caps and the fact that they ... wibble and slip about. NO!

Eeeuuughhhh!

Laiste · 13/10/2019 16:32

While we're here - is there anyone here with a button phobia? It seems to be one which comes up at least once on these threads and i would love someone to try and articulate why or what it is about the buttons which upset them.

Mine's knee caps, as above, so i'm not looking to mock i'm genuinely fascinated :)

DustyMaiden · 13/10/2019 16:34

Baked beans, especially cleaning the can for recycling.

Pinkbonbon · 13/10/2019 16:35

Have noticed lately that whisteling creeps me out n grates on me. Not a quick 'over here' whistle but like when men whistle tunes.

I think because my pal n I were targeted by muggers a few years ago n they were whistling, trying to herd us into a place. Luckily we were too quick for them.

But overall I just find it really intrusive. It gives me the wigs.

happygoluckyhippo · 13/10/2019 16:40

Sound of polystyrene
Earthworms
I also have trypophobia (not 100% sure if that's the right name and I'm NOT gonna google it. Also haven't read all the posts yet in case it's been mentioned) basically surfaces with many holes

Eerw

VioletCharlotte · 13/10/2019 16:43

The feel of unvarnished wood, especially chips forks. Can't pick them up, let alone put one in my mouth. Also hate clothing labels touching my neck.

StormOfSekhmet · 13/10/2019 16:44

Trypophobia, someone else has mentioned it. Clusters of holes. Makes me feel sick, and like I want to wash my hands, it's a very strong feeling of revulsion, not actually fear, with me.

ElsieMc · 13/10/2019 16:51

My dd has a fear of people dressed as bears or any other cuddly animal. Not clowns, but furry animals. She has never been able to overcome it and we don't know where it came from. As a little girl, if anyone was out and about dressed up with a charity bucket, she would start to shake with fear so I had to head off in the opposite direction. Full on shaking and sweating with fear.

Her dh thought she was joking until she had a complete meltdown when they chanced upon this in the supermarket. He couldn't believe it, it was a full on panic attack. I don't know how she would manage with her own kids at Disneyland or similar.

dumpylittlepixie · 13/10/2019 16:52

Toilet rolls and cotton wool 😦

VictoriaBun · 13/10/2019 16:56

I don't mind heights , and love walking near rivers , lakes , the sea etc but , put the two together and I get the heebie jeebies , even a canal towpath with the water a couple of feet below the tow path will set my heart racing.

easyandy101 · 13/10/2019 16:57

There's a sign near where i live that says:

"Danger, underwater machinery"

I cross the road rather than walk past the sign

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 13/10/2019 17:01

Paper that is designed to go in your mouth 🤢
Paper straw
Paper cup
Lollipop stick
They all make the hairs on
My arms stick up and make me feel physically sick

nixso29 · 13/10/2019 17:01

Fish, clowns, knees

Campervanlife4me · 13/10/2019 17:05

OP posts:
Keepaddingpets · 13/10/2019 17:06

Non matching cutlery - can't face eating either a different knife and fork

BillThePony · 13/10/2019 17:12

Pylons and that really dark black water you get in harbours.
