To need dejunking Motivation

My spare room is much like other folks I suppose. Full of everything that doesn't belong elsewhere in the house. I keep a relatively tidy house and most things have a place.
But ... you knew there would be a but didnt you .

A relative is coming to stay for several weeks. No problem there and we are thrilled to have them stay with us.
The spare room needs to be dejunked so that the relative has some room to out their things and to enjoy being in the room. Ive had several goes at tidying it but always leave defeated.I need serious amounts of arse kicking to help me sort it out or Im going to have to exchange rooms so we have the junk room.

In the room is a bed with 4 drawers and 2 side tables with a drawer in each. There is a wardrobe with 5 shelves and a dresser with 8 drawers( different sizes) . Every drawer is full ,the wardrobe is full to bursting and there are boxes on the floor that are stuffed with random things. You cant use the bed at the moment as it is full of clothes and objects that need to be put away. But there isnt any room.
Oh ...and the floor by the bed is awash with shoes which have nowhere to go.
In my own room we have wardrobes and drawers that neatly hold our day to day clothes and shoes so its not as if we dont have storage.

Any tips or ideas how to sort it out much appreciated. I only have 2 weekends to do this but already have had to come out of the room today as Im just moving stuff and not achieving anything.

If that stuff has been piled in there for ages, you simply don't need it. Anything you haven't worn this past year, get rid of it. At least half of those shoes you don't need. All that random crap is just that. If it's sitting unused and forgotten about in the guest room, you don't need it. Be ruthless and just GET RID.

I also recommend that you take every single thing from the drawers, wardrobe, in the bed and floor, and get it out of the room. Bring it ALL into the lounge. The need to get your lounge back will force you to deal with it all and quickly.

As another poster has said if it’s been sat in your spare room and it used for 12 months then it’s not needed.

Just bag up and charity shop. The rest through away. You don’t need that many clothes.

Watch The Minimalists (on Amazon and possibly on Netflix) , that might give you some motivation to get rid.

Good idea to move it all somewhere else. Theres loads though so it would take an age to simply move it.
I want to throw it out .I really do.I definitely dont need that many clothes. Ive actually thrown away a lot( charity shopped it all) .

Ive Embraced Marie Kondo and I still like the clothes that are left. I love the shoes that trip me up when Im trying to get across the room. I need the bottles of skin lotion and half empty hair mousse. I have drawers full of cosmetics . I only wear lipstick day to day. But I love those tubes and palettes of lovely colours. I have hairstyling brushes ,tongs and blowers of all kinds. I use them all from time to time.

I definitely need help.
