Fuck off with the white, grey, sparce, boring, unoriginal, sameish nonsense

But you don't have to go for that in your home. I certainly don't.

I like the minimalist look , but am too messy Smile

MarshaBradyo · 11/10/2019 18:53

The trend is now moving away from that loads of ‘maximalism’ being pushed in interior design.

Obviously not everyone wants to or can or even should follow trends but it’s out there if you want to do it.

To me minimalism just means having less crap. Easier to keep the house tidy and no clutter.
It doesn’t mean white or grey or sparse.

Where are you encountering this with such frequency that it’s having a big impact on you?

I know not one person who lives like this, so it creates no response in me whatsoever. It’s just some meaningless Pinterest shit, surely?

All interior decors are pretty ''sameish'' OP when you get down to it. If you've seen 4 or 5 styles you've seen them all. (unless you're talking having the kind of cash which gets you a beach with a pool and a waterfall in the middle of your living room or something.)

To the eyes of anyone unfamiliar with all the objects in a home it's always just someone's 'stuff'. Someone else's choices. I was bought up in a very un-minimal house and i've grown up completely rejecting clutter the 'eclectic' look. Cool tones and restraint from have bits and pieces on everything, even though there may well be plenty of room for them, does my brain good.

But why does it matter so much to you that other people's decor choices are different to yours?

CormacMcLaggen · 11/10/2019 19:52

I loooove my white walls. I love having light and space in every room, and have very few items or stuff on display. It's easy to keep clean and tidy, and gives me peace. Kinda Zen.

My friend has a house full of colour and stuff, it has loads of character and personality. It's fab! But not a decor/lifestyle for me.

Each to their own, surely?

BatshitCrazyWoman · 11/10/2019 19:56

I'm quite minimal - I just don't have lots of stuff! The use of grey or white isn't compulsory Grin

I’m with you 100%. I know someone who’s painted their entire house grey. It looks like a bloody ward
