To think Catherine Zeta-Jones is an inspiration!

I was in the hairdressers yesterday and so provided with the obligatory copy of “Hello” magazine. Anyway, in it was CZJ and I just thought she looks fantastic. I’m 45 now, so the 50s are looming and I love seeing a woman like that who is 50, but more stunning than ever. I also think the same about Amanda Holden who I’ve met a few times and she’s another one who has improved with age. I know AH is not popular on MN, but why not? AIBU to think these two defy the myth that women should just let it all go as they get older?

I imagine they have both had a lot of “work” so I don’t find it inspirational in fact annoying as they set the bar as to how women of that age “should” look but most of us don’t because we don’t have plastic surgery or Botox. It’s like skewing the playing field

TheVanguardSix · 11/10/2019 08:50

For me, actions speak lounder than fillers.

Christy Turlington, now there's an inspiration.

Blue5238 · 11/10/2019 08:50

Both have had a shit load of work done. I don't think that's especially inspiring tbh

Teacakeandalatte · 11/10/2019 08:51

Its a lot easier if you start out stunningly beautiful and have a fortune to spend on your self care and clothes.

NoSauce · 11/10/2019 08:52

AH and CZJ are both beautiful women there’s no denying that but inspirational? I don’t think so. For what? Their looks? CZJ will most probably have a chef, hairdresser, personal trainer, housemaid, butler, chauffeur and a whole other host of people helping her to look amazing!

Adversecamber22 · 11/10/2019 08:53

Well good for them but you are massively unreasonable because they will have an entourage of professional make up artists, personal trainers etc. I say that as a woman who looks younger than she is though I’m in my fifties, mines mainly lucky genetics.

I don’t know what this myth is of letting it all go either.

CurlyTwirlyTwos · 11/10/2019 08:53

They do make an effort though, I can see OP's point. Us normal folk just have to quadruple it Wink!

I totally agree with Catherine Z Jones though...she does look fantastic!

Arrowfanatic · 11/10/2019 08:54

Amanda Holden has had a tonne of work done so no i dont see her as an inspiration for growing older gracefully with age.

Ounce · 11/10/2019 08:54

YABU. What a depressingly limited view of what women should be.

Justmuddlingalong · 11/10/2019 08:54

Yeah, I'm eagerly awaiting getting to the age where my wrinkles miraculously smooth themselves out. And my teeth become perfectly straight and 5 shades whiter. Not. 😕

MsTSwift · 11/10/2019 08:55

Look at Bianca Jaggers Wikipedia page and feel abit ashamed that you thought these two were “inspirational”

EskewedBeef · 11/10/2019 08:55

Obviously they're attractive women, but I don't think a load of cosmetic surgery is anything to admire, and I honestly don't think it has improved the way they look.

Idontwanttotalk · 11/10/2019 08:55

I haven't seen a picture of CZJ lately but AH's face is virtually unrecognisable with her pillow cheeks and shiny forehead and plumped up lips. She hasn't become more stunning as she has become older. She looked better before the cosmetic work. Her body is good but she has ruined her face.

It also appears that she lacks self-esteem and can only feel good by exposing as much flesh as possible.

I don't think she is much of a role model to women although I do think she sounds as if she is a nice person.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 11/10/2019 08:56

CZJ does indeed look fantastic (a darn sight better than me and I'm not 40 yet!)

It's a lot easier to look good when you have a bottomless bank account though!

IJustLovePirates · 11/10/2019 08:56

I just love Catherine Zeta Jones. I loved her in Zorro.

“He was vigorous father. Very vigorous” 😀

CleopatraTomato · 11/10/2019 08:57

YABU OP . Agree with others who say that it is easy if you have the team and money in place to enable this.

I see them as a slightly different species. I never looked like that and never will. Don't have long legs or beautiful bone structure. Hair a bit wild and skin so-so. I'd rather be inspired by ordinary women who fight the odds and achive something that matters.

Parisa5 · 11/10/2019 08:57

Everyone says, “oh they’ve had loads of work done”, but what is “loads?” Like it or not, fillers and Botox are available and here to stay. It’s not about having “loads” done, more about a good practitioner - and the test of a good practitioner is that they will generally tell you less is more. Plus, loads of men have fillers and Botox too these days. It is what it is. I’ve had forehead Botox and it’s brilliant. Why not? By that logic, women should never colour their hair or spend whatever they do on face products every year etc etc etc. What’s the difference?

NameChange84 · 11/10/2019 08:58

The thing is CZJ was always exceptionally beautiful. She didn't just become beautiful at 50, so chances are she is going to portray a less achievable look at 50 than is the norm for most women. Then as others say, she has a team of paid professionals dedicated to her image.

NoSauce · 11/10/2019 08:59

Now this is someone who I think is a beautiful older woman and it doesn’t look like she’s had any work done.

To think Catherine Zeta-Jones is an inspiration!
isabellerossignol · 11/10/2019 09:00

I think she looks fine but I'm not sure about inspirational. It would be inspirational if someone was able to break the rules of Hollywood and say 'I'm not playing the game, I'm not having botox and fillers'.

But I can understand why women in that position don't do that, because the effect on their career would most likely be detrimental.

TottieandMarchpane · 11/10/2019 09:00

That’s like saying you’re forty so you find a fifty year old owning a Rolls Royce ”an inspiration”.

I mean if you have the budget, and the inclination, sure. Follow suit, by all means. But it’s a purchase. Hardly inspirational.

PralineCookie · 11/10/2019 09:01

Of course the most important thing about women over 50 is looking good so that they don't offend people with their ageing bodies and faces. Hmm

YABVU.

Okay. Fine.

So which bit of that makes her an “inspiration”? I don’t get it.

NoSauce · 11/10/2019 09:05

They are going to look younger though as they’ve had work done.

TottieandMarchpane · 11/10/2019 09:06

Or do you mean “an inspiration” like a colour spread in Homes and Gardens or a mood board is “inspiration” when you’re decorating?
