I've name changed for this as part of me feels I've come up with the right idea but part of me also thinks I'm being a complete idiot!

I heard today that Leo Varadkar is very pleased with today's talks and feels a deal will/ can be made.

This is the first time he's seemed so positive and he was adamant there was no other way than to allow the backstop

What's changed? Has Boris agreed to a referendum in Northern Ireland to allow the people of Northern Ireland to vote on the backstop? Is this even possible? (I know nothing about politics!!)

I'm probably just dreaming!

I can only imagine that Boris cried and said please please please please please tell them good things 🤷🏻‍♀️

Greatnorthwoods · 11/10/2019 00:41

My theory is that they agreed no deal was going to happen. However they agreed to keep it quiet to limit the opposition that Boris would face.

thisismesoitis · 11/10/2019 00:48

But what would Leo have to gain from that? No deal is not what he wants.

Oh please be my theory please!!!!
(Even if I do think it's far fetched)

The reality is if the people of Northern Ireland get a say the backstop will be put in place and then the trade deals can go ahead

He doesn’t want no deal, however he does want time to prepare and minimize panic buying.

Who did you hear that from? I mean, was it a Number 10 briefing (in which case ignore) or have the Irish authorities said the same thing?

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 11/10/2019 09:24

Did Leo say it or did boris’s people say he did? If the latter it’s lies, the publish lies everyday. The sort that would have got you thrown out a few short years ago.

The DUP have woken up and smelled the coffee. They are going to grudgingly agree to the Irish Sea border (with some face saving modifications). Still got to get through HOC though. But it's progress. Progress that could have been made 3 years ago approx if T May had not 'bought' the DUP. Bad move, Theresa.

Bluntness100 · 11/10/2019 09:31

There is no way he agreed no deal as it means a hard border.

Whatever they have agreed we will know soon, as it will be leaked.

One thing Brexit has taught me is to not believe anything until it's reported in European papers. All UK media has an agenda one way ... or the other.

(Looks in French, German, Italian paper websites).

Nope, nothing yet. A lot about Turkey, and the ongoing Trump investigation, but rien de Brexit ...
