18 month old has a cold sore

I have never had a cold sore before, neither has DP. None of my family get them and none of his either. Apart from his DD and her mom (his ex).

DSD probably has one one a month and haven't seen ex without one.

I have told her from day one no kissing the baby but she never listens and she is the only one she could have caught it from.

I'm not angry at her, I don't know how I feel, I'm just devastated that my baby has a life long virus that I can't get rid off 😢

AIBU 😢😢

No one’s going to call her a scabby, diseased baggage because she has cold sores. They’re massively common.
Might be massively common but people do judge even more so these days.

I posted on here once for tips on how to get rid of cold sores and had a response that said I should stop giving blow jobs so much... I’ve suffered with cold sore since I was two 🙁

You can’t cure stupid unfortunately. Some people just like being dickheads, even to kids! I think I was on the thread Freddie was on on here and I ended up hiding it or else I was going to punch my phone.

I used to get them infrequently when I was a kid/teenager, maybe twice a year. I think I've had 1 or maybe 2 in the last 10 years so it isn't something that is constant in my experience so I wouldn't worry too much! They don't last long either as long as you put the cream on Smile

Who knows, possibly in your daughter's life time there'll be a cure for cold sores. In the meantime, as life long viruses go, it's probably the one you want to have - they're painful (not constantly and varies depending on where they are/how much food/liquid touches them) but not serious.

My experience is that my body has got faster over the years at dealing with coldsores, which I've had since I was probably 8 or so.

Also my experience, but other people's seems to vary: applying aciclovir cream hurts far too much to make it worthwhile.

If your step daughter is also a child, expecting her not to kiss her half-sister for over 18 months is a bit much.

FFS, typical mumsnet fuckery!

Huge numbers of the population have the virus without symptoms... she could easily have got it from you or DP
