@areyoubeingserviced I meant sade epitomised class. Snd hoops are a core part of her look. I hope that was clear.

fantasmasgoria1 · 10/10/2019 19:39

The only hoops I wear are silver ethnic style ones. I think it depends on the person, their individual style and the actual hoops. Personally I find really large gold hoops are tacky.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 10/10/2019 19:42

I think that plain hoops are very difficult to style nicely but if they are elegant yet fashionable hoops then it’s doable.

Moominfan · 10/10/2019 19:50

Lets face it, hoops were disapproved of because they were traditionally worn by ethnic minorities

Yep, disapprove of others that wear them, but steal it for yourselves.
How terribly British Empire.

This ^ I'm not in with the boden crowd and love a big hoop. Idgaf if anyone thinks it's chavy

demelza82 · 10/10/2019 19:56

No, they look awesome - stick to your mum stripes and Lucy and Yak children's TV presenter dungarees if they if they offend you . Next!

ohbabygirl · 10/10/2019 19:57

If you have them in with an Adidas tracksuit and Nike air max, then yes...

TheSheepofWallSt · 10/10/2019 19:58

My style is best described as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer grows up, gains 5 stone and meets Boden”.

I love a big hoop.

I also don't like the small ones, or even middle sized to be honest (like 50p-£2 coin sized).

The only ones I like and wear are the thin ones that are massive. It's go big or go home here.

As with anything, they can look good and stylish, or quirky or scruffy.

With faded trackies, a bad blonde dye job in a tight bun and a bad fake tan then they'd look chavvy (and I don't care that some on MN pretend that look doesn't exist).
With bohemian style clothes they can look quite quirky.
With jeans and a nice top or a jumpsuit they can look really stylish.

Hey, leave the Adidas bashing. Big hoop and Adidas tracksuit is entire Slav culture Grin

jellybaby1 · 10/10/2019 20:43

I wear massive ones, and don't give a shit if they look "tacky" 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️😂

Moonflower12 · 10/10/2019 21:11

My friend wears fine but big plain real gold hoops with only a dark plum lipstick ( and obviously clothes!) and looks absolutely amazing.

Tehmina2 · 10/10/2019 21:23

I like my rose gold hoops...

Lardlizard · 10/10/2019 21:35

I’ve always liked hoop earrings but I go for the smaller size now .
Bigger ones look good if you don’t wear too much other jewellery as it just looks over done

RitmoRatmo · 10/10/2019 21:45

Always been tacky & pointless imho. But I appreciate others see something in them.

cardamoncoffee · 10/10/2019 21:53

I personally hate them. In my culture baby girls wear them and it's a sign of wealth(they are gold), so for that reason I usually think they are tacky. Dreadful looking if there is more than one hoop per ear too. A school mum has about 5 in each ear in ascending order, I get anxious looking at her as I worry they will get caught on something.

BumbleBeee69 · 10/10/2019 21:55

well... obviously those who wear them are never going to consider them tacky.. are they..? Grin

betternamepending · 10/10/2019 22:08

Can people who say hoops look ‘cheap’ explain what they mean?

Indoctrination. My mum told me a lot of times that they looked cheap and I still can't buy them because I hear her say it in my head every time I see them. She had the same opinion on red shoes. I'm 40, have been dying to wear red shoes ever since I was a teen and still can't bring myself to buy them. Intellectually I know it's bollocks but it still affects me.

Shangrilalala · 10/10/2019 22:16

Love them. I have a pair that cost thousands and a pair that I got for peanuts in Zara.

I particularly love the way that people who believe themselves above them stylistically froth at their very mention.

BatshitBertha · 10/10/2019 22:17

The bigger the hoop...the bigger the ho Wink

BatshitBertha · 10/10/2019 22:19

I say that in jest btw. I love hoops, I don't wear them myself) but they look great!

Divebar · 10/10/2019 22:47

Well I don’t have any but if the Boden Crew don’t like them then I’m getting some pronto.

Drabarni · 11/10/2019 10:56

Well, with all these people thinking they are tacky, that's all the better for us that don't.
I can't stand really liking something and finding out there's no stock left.
I saw lots out and about yesterday as looking for some for xmas. I usually have to point dh in the right direction.
I'm liking the Vivienne Westwood hoops atm, very funky. Grin
