The larger kind

Also the "chav" connection with the tracksuit etc is another underclass.

Burberry’s brand suffered terribly with that in the late 1990s!

Don't know, don't care.
I wear them sometimes as I like them.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 10/10/2019 18:49

Cheap = tasteless and common.

LolaSmiles · 10/10/2019 18:50

They can look tacky and chavvy or they can look really nice.

I quite like them and have several pairs, but how they look depends on the style, material and overall outfit in my opinion.

LadyGAgain · 10/10/2019 18:53

I love hoops. And I'd like to think I'm not tacky!

motherheroic · 10/10/2019 18:54

Who cares.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 10/10/2019 18:58

Not tacky, but I recently met a woman at a wedding who was wearing them - and carrying a 1yo baby. She had to keep ducking and weaving to avoid them being grabbed Grin

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 10/10/2019 19:05

Yes I don't like the small to medium sized ones either, I can't quite put my finger on why. I either go big or go home when it comes to hoop earrings.

peachgreen · 10/10/2019 19:06

I wear gold hoops every day - I have about 20 different pairs and I love them.

Doobigetta · 10/10/2019 19:07

@MakeItFappy, sorry but I think that article is bullshit. Anyone can wear any style of bloody earrings they want. Criticising ethnic minority women for wearing them is racist bullshit, and accusing white women of cultural appropriation for wearing them is just stupid bullshit. And a little girl stealing jewellery is a little girl stealing jewellery and absolutely nothing to do with cultural appropriation.

GADA9215 · 10/10/2019 19:07

I find them very tacky. I was having this convo with my OH the other day actually 🤣

JustaScratcj · 10/10/2019 19:11

I wear hoops all the time - quite thin, fairly large gold ones. I usually pair them with dresses and natural make-up and I love them. I think they can be worn lots of ways.

I've looked into the cultural appropriation thing quite a bit and I think in this instance it has more significance in the US than in the UK. Happy to be told I'm wrong though.

Fairylea · 10/10/2019 19:11

I really like them but I don’t think they can ever look classy and smart like a very small pair of stud earrings can or a small drop dangly earring. That doesn’t matter if you like them though. Fashion should be fun!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/10/2019 19:12

I love a big hoop! Blush not day to day just if out on a proper night out.

Aprillygirl · 10/10/2019 19:12

Do you think they look tacky? If so, don't wear them. If not, wear them. Jesus Christ can no one think for themselves anymore? Confused

BarkandCheese · 10/10/2019 19:13

Not something I wear personally, statement jewellery isn’t me, but I like them on other people.

madcatladyforever · 10/10/2019 19:15

If worn with a stupid bun right on the top of your head yes.
If you are a classy kind of lady you can get away with it but quite honestly they are a bit Eastenders.

Drabarni · 10/10/2019 19:16

Lets face it, hoops were disapproved of because they were traditionally worn by ethnic minorities

Yep, disapprove of others that wear them, but steal it for yourselves.
How terribly British Empire.

KUGA · 10/10/2019 19:26

Not if your a Gypsy.

Motsi had a lovely pair on strictly the other night I wanted to go for a swing on them

AllDaySnacker · 10/10/2019 19:30

I think large gold hoops (yellow, not pale gold) with jumpsuit, neat hair and heels look glamorous on some ladies I’ve seen. Confidence and poise definitely help.

Drabarni · 10/10/2019 19:32

This would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
Hoops are part of some peoples culture, but of course anyone is free to wear them.
Don't wear them if you don't want to, it isn't difficult.

I only wear hoops, they go with my flowing dresses, headscarf, red lipstick and scarf.
For the ignorant a chav is a young Romany lad, who wouldn't have ears pierced as deemed feminine, and certainly against the culture.

Grumpos · 10/10/2019 19:35

The bigger the hoop, the bigger the Ho

As the saying goes

Personally I love hoops, they take a certain attitude to carry off. I don’t wear them enough.

You can wear anything you like, pearls are classic but can look fuddy duddy and blousy but someone likes them who cares?

No one has the overall rule of what is stylish. Wear what you want with pride. Haters gonna hate
