Drinks with no sweeteners

Posting for traffic. Since the sugar tax it’s been hard to find drinks without sweeteners. All my favourites are ruined. Winter won’t be the same without a hot Ribena! Anyone know of anything I can buy? Struggling with HG and can’t keep water down but can keep other things down.

Yes the Sainsbury's High Juice squash has no sweetener varieties which are nice. Waitrose version also has full sugar varieties.

EssentialHummus · 09/10/2019 13:24

Fentimans? Would sparkling water drinks like Ugly do it for you? They are very very lightly flavoured though - the equivalent of having a slice of lemon in fizzy water.

Iamnotaroboteither · 09/10/2019 13:27

But they still do Ribena with sugar... I always buy that one as I hate sweeteners too. They haven't got rid of it have they? They are bringing out more drinks nowadays using natural sweeteners, just can't think of any.

ColdRainAgain · 09/10/2019 13:48

There is still a ribena with sugar, but it also has sweeteners.
It's not that we want a drink with sugar, its that we are after one without sweetener, which is getting increasingly more difficult.

Dalston's do a lovely range of fizzy drinks without sweeteners, the cherryade is my favourite but the others are lovely too. Enjoy!

JonnyPocketRocket · 09/10/2019 14:22

Tesco and the Co-op also have an own-brand range of high juice (basically squash) that doesn't have sweeteners. Some of their high juices do, but others don't, so you just have to check the ingredients.
I also hate the move towards sweeteners rather than sugar. Better the devil you know IMO 🤷🏼‍♀️

Elphame · 09/10/2019 14:26

We've converted to Rocks here too.

I won't buy any products containing artificial sweeteners or even stevia ( nowhere near as natural as they claim)

chemenger · 09/10/2019 15:24

Another vote for Dalston’s cherry made, it’s lovely.

chemenger · 09/10/2019 15:25

Cherryade

AlanThePig · 09/10/2019 15:27

Belvoir is as close to original Ribena as it gets for me.

Chocolateandamaretto · 09/10/2019 16:04

Cordial is your best bet. More expensive but it lasts a while in the fridge.
If you fancy a fizzy drink and you can find it rio doesn’t have added sweetener. Maybe the san pellegrino fruity fizzy drinks as well?

easyandy101 · 09/10/2019 16:12

Maybe the san pellegrino fruity fizzy drinks as well?

They've been ruined with stevia now

They do a sweetener free iced tea range though to run along side and it's pretty nice

minicheddars90 · 09/10/2019 16:12

Yes Belvoir Blueberry & Blackcurrant cordial is very similar to oringnal Ribena! Expensive though.. £3.29 in Tesco's

Vimto I think is still half and half?

BeanBag7 · 09/10/2019 16:15

Asda have a high juice range that specifically says "with sugar not sweetener". I buy that and its nice.

AlanThePig · 09/10/2019 16:24

Expensive though.. £3.29 in Tesco's

It's frequently on offer across the supermarkets. I stock up when it's £2.50 a bottle

Gingerkittykat · 09/10/2019 16:27

The Belvoir range are excellent but pricey. They keep bringing out new flavours for a while, they had a rhubarb one for a few weeks and I got a raspberry one last week.

easyandy101 · 09/10/2019 16:29

I love the raspberry lemonade

catsmother · 09/10/2019 16:30

It's not just the flavour that sweeteners ruin...they can also have a horrid effect upon your stomach, particularly so if you have IBS or the like. Sad

Hadalifeonce · 09/10/2019 16:47

Waitrose high juice does one with no sweeteners.
Bloody sweeteners have ruined my Pimm's!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/10/2019 17:11

I have given up on shop-bought lemon and orange squashes without sweeteners, and resorted to making my own. At least when I do that I know that all that went into it is lemons or oranges, citric acid, tartaric acid and sugar!

dramaticpenguin · 09/10/2019 17:18

Ive always had a bad reaction to Saccharine and aspartame and the others dont taste nice anyway!
I'm so disappointed that i can't but normal ribena now, wish we weren't in such a many state, I'm perfectly capable of regulating my own sugar intake!

ratsnest · 09/10/2019 17:18

Sainsbury's high juice squash is proper sugar, not as expensive as Rocks and the like, and the blackcurrant is lovely.

dramaticpenguin · 09/10/2019 17:18

Nanny state!

easyandy101 · 09/10/2019 17:19

Nanny state!

Lack of confidence in their product imo

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/10/2019 17:22

Belvoir cordials don’t have sweeteners - I buy the lime and lemongrass one and make it up with fizzy water - it is great.

I am pretty sure that the Tesco high juice blackcurrant doesn’t have sweeteners in - I certainly can’t taste them in it (and I can usually taste them, when they’ve been added to drinks that used to be fine).

I’m lucky that I am not sensitive/allergic to sweeteners, but I just hate the taste - and I’d rather have full sugar drinks less often than a fake-sweet alternative.
