I’ve never known what I want to be ‘when I grow up’

Now I’m grown up and I still don’t know!

AIBU to ask you to tell me what your dream career is? (And hopefully inspire me!)

Child psychologist! Currently doing my degree then onto my PhD afterwards Smile

NaviSprite · 08/10/2019 18:27

Character designer for Video Games, Comic Book artist/writer and author have been my dream jobs since I was 9.

I’m a traditional artist so can’t do number 1 as I don’t have the funds to get the relevant computer art programs but 2 and 3 may still happen...?

TequilaMockingbird0 · 08/10/2019 18:28

If it paid well or I won the lottery and didn't need to worry about money, I'd train as a midwife. Seeing life come into the world and how awesome women are for going through labour must be the most incredible job.

riotlady · 08/10/2019 18:29

Would love to be on Broadway but unfortunately I can’t act, sing or dance!

Currently training to be an occupational therapist, if I could find a paediatric role when I’m qualified that would be a very good second option :)

EvenPhilip · 08/10/2019 18:30

Too late now but doctor.

SpiderCharlotte · 08/10/2019 18:33

A vet. Biggest regret of my life.

chickenninja · 08/10/2019 18:37
  1. Graphic designer.
  2. Something really meaningful/worthwhile where you make a difference like nursing or opening a dog rescue centre and save dogs from death row to give them an amazing life.
  3. Running a summer boot camp like the American 'fat camps' for teenagers.
  4. Painting murals (and earning lots of money for it).

The truth is I don't have the skills or confidence to do any of this. I've been a SAHM for a few years now and I'm so out the loop I'm scared to apply for a job in the pound shop.

PumpkinPie2016 · 08/10/2019 18:41

A police officer - I do wish I hadn't listened to my parents who tried their best to talk me out of it.

I never applied and it remains one of my biggest regrets Sad

LittleSweet · 08/10/2019 18:41

I want to teach junior age children who have additional needs who are school phobic.

I'm a teacher and at the moment a carer for my dcs who have additional needs. One of them is school phobic. Seeing him suffer and helping him makes me want to help others. I've got no idea how to accomplish this dream.

MsMustDoBetter · 08/10/2019 18:43

Writer, one that actually gets published and people buy.

7Worfs · 08/10/2019 18:48

@LittleSweet Could you start as a one to one tutor, and build from there?
It will require a lot of research and marketing appropriately, but probably not a huge cost to set up?

Alicesweewonders · 08/10/2019 18:50

Chocolate TasterCake

That or an artist/animator

Notmilitantbutmycardismarked · 08/10/2019 18:50

I would like to do some sort of handy person job. I'm quite good with manual things. I made my bed from planks of wood from the wood merchants and I replaced my windows with double glazing myself and most of my house stuff I've done. I can't do plastering though. I make it really lumpy. I find things like plumbing really interesting. I'm embarrassed to admit to that.

Unfortunately I have a disability which limits me. I can only do things in short bursts . It took me 3 months to replace my windows. That is fine when it's for you but not when someone is paying you.

I think I cpuld have probably made a go of it otherwise. There must be demand for female handy person's. Or whatever the correct term is!

ChinUpChestOut · 08/10/2019 18:53

I'd like to work in a garden centre. I don't really know one end of a plant from the other, but I like being around them. And it would be a garden centre with a really nice cafe attached to it, that sold home made cakes and played jazz on a Sunday.

I'd probably be bored or fired within 3 weeks.

7Worfs · 08/10/2019 18:54

You could open a school for handywomen (does this word sound dodgy?)

Officesserved · 08/10/2019 18:55

I would love to be Jack Reacher lol

Aposterhasnoname · 08/10/2019 18:56

Tour guide, spending my days wandering round fascinating places, and getting paid to learn as much as I can about them . Preferably somewhere warm. Italy perhaps, or Egypt.

backup2019 · 08/10/2019 19:00

Children's heart surgeon 4 days a week, blind dog puppy foster 1 day a week.

ISmellBabies · 08/10/2019 19:02
  1. Baby cuddler.
  2. Puppy rearer.
  3. Anything to do with looking after babies or baby animals.
  4. Dog/animal rescue shelter worker.
  5. Looking after elderly or disabled people, or in a children's home or education centre. Doing something like a care co-ordinator or residential home owner, so I could make sure everyone gets really good quality care and everyone is happy and not lonely, and everyone feels loved and valued.
ISmellBabies · 08/10/2019 19:03

Ooh, or Jason Momoa's masseuse, haha!

Lochnessgiraffe · 08/10/2019 19:05

Well paid - surgeon.
Otherwise - police detective
Or winning the lottery - dog shelter

teachandsleep · 08/10/2019 19:07

A Doctor. Became a teacher instead. After 25 years in teaching the last 2 years have nearly broken me!

AlletrixLeStrange · 08/10/2019 19:07

Psychiatrist - not the real life kind the ones of American tv shows Grin

I am in my second year training as a midwife - with 9yo DS and 9mo DD so for those saying it's not possible, I'm winging it quite well so far Wink

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 08/10/2019 19:08
