to be annoyed about phone call from DFS?

At the end of last week, I was looking at sofas on DFS, I wanted to save a few into a favorites file as I was looking at loads on different websites, so I registered on the website. Pretty sure I did no contact on the marketing preferences as I usually do. I can't guarantee that i didn't allow marketing though. Anyway, I then chucked a couple into my basket so I could see how long they were looking at for delivery and also whether there was an extra charge.

There was and this tends to put me off and anyway, I was still looking elsewhere.

Then on Saturday I see I have a missed call and a voicemail. It's from DFS wondering if I have a problem since I've left stuff in my basket but haven't purchased...

So, I contact them through their social media chat as I think that's a bit of an invasion tbh. They are telling me that it's not a sales/marketing call, it's "legitimate interest" and my marketing preferences don't apply. They also can't now tell me what I'd selected in terms of marketing as they've deleted my account. I specifically asked several times for them to confirm what marketing preference they held and to give me this info before deleting the acount but they did it anyway.

So, I guess I'm now wondering whether this has happened to other people and whether you would be annoyed?

I shop on-line a lot and regularly put stuff in baskets to test out discount codes/see what delivery charges are and then just don't go through with the sale, this is the first time I've ever had someone phone me on the back of it.
