To see a gp over this?

I have what I think is a swollen gland on the side of my neck, it's only on one side. It's hard and does not really move if I press it. I have no other signs of infection or illness. I have had it for a week. Would I be wasting gp's time if I get it checked out?

No. You should get it checked out! I have the same and it’s nothing - it actually popped up years ago and stayed there ever since which is weird. But my doctor said it was nothing although it was right to get it checked out.

Personally if it’s just for a week, no. Only because I have this often and if feel fine wouldn’t worry about it.

It's never a waste of a GPs time if its abnormal, cannot be solved over the counter in a pharmacy, or is causing you pain and discomfort

I'd say go for it and see a GP , YANBU

Get it checked, any unexpected lumps or bumps are worth checking.

RandomMess · 07/10/2019 12:15

You will need to wait 3/4 weeks to see the GP and get referred.

I went though this with my teen recently. It was there nearly 4 weeks when referred, over the weekend it became huge - couldn't mover her head and could see it across the room!

ENT within 36 hours. Biopsies taken and every type of scan. It eventually went down, everything clear.

Yes it was scary at the time!

They won't refer you until you've had it for 3/4 weeks though.

PandaAtTheZoo · 07/10/2019 12:25

Is it better to wait another week?

No I think you should go to the GP. It's what they are there for. Get it checked.

missyB1 · 07/10/2019 12:46

By the time OP gets a GP appointment it could be 3 or 4 weeks anyway! Minimum wait of 3 weeks at our GP surgery.

WillowintheUK · 07/10/2019 12:50

I was referred immediately for pretty much the same. It was lymphoma.

RandomMess · 07/10/2019 13:09

I agree about booking one now to ensure you're seen within 4 weeks of it having appeared!!

Colleague had the same thing and it was TB - who knew!

OneHanded · 07/10/2019 13:13

I’ve always been to get any lumps checked and they’re always glad that I’ve done so. As a rule of thumb they look at how it moves about so definitely worth it.

LadyAndiBella · 07/10/2019 13:14

I would get it looked at but not as an emergency appointment
