To tell you how proud I am of my son?

DS(2) started pre-school a month ago. I had a catch up with his key worker today to talk me through her initial assessments of him.

She has absolutely no concerns whatsoever - he is reaching all of his age appropriate milestones, and exceeding a few of them. She was a bit worried about his speech but he has caught up so quickly and is starting to use five-word sentences more regularly (he is 3 in six weeks).

I know none of this sounds exceptional, but -

I adopted my son just after he turned a year old. He was removed from his birth mum at birth, born at 32 weeks and spent the first weeks of his life in NICU. He has been through more in his little life than I would ever wish on my worst enemy, losing everything he has ever known and starting all over again. He even nearly moved in with another family who then "changed their mind" about adopting him just before his first birthday. He had been through introductions with them for a week and they decided not to bring him home on moving day.

I feel so overwhelmingly proud of him. He has overcome so much and to be told how he is thriving, how settled and happy he is there when I cant be with me, just makes my heart melt.

I've name changed since but here is my first post about him nearly two years ago...pleased to report I am still just as obsessed with him as I was back then Grin

You two are so lucky to have each other ❤️

Yeahhhhhhh
I'm loving this update! Well done your boy.
Hope you've got a big daft grin on your face. Give yourself one of those rare parenting pats on the backs. Just brilliant

Somebodystired · 07/10/2019 16:22

Thank you all, you're all so lovely! I'm very lucky to have him as my son (especially knowing how close he came to being someone elses!). He is just my absolute favourite person.

Aww I'm crying OP! Just read your first post about him as well, what a beautiful love story you have with your son!

UrsulaPandress · 07/10/2019 17:31

Aw I remember your first post.

How wonderful you found each other.

UrsulaPandress · 07/10/2019 17:34

Does he still sleep with you?

Nothing nicer in my opinion.

Somebodystired · 07/10/2019 20:46

Love story is the perfect way to describe it. I've never known a love like it. I know it is how most parents feel about their children but bloody hell it's fantastic isn't it!

@UrsulaPandress he doesn't very often, he is a great sleeper and goes down every night at 6.30pm til 7am. Once every few months he wakes in the very early hours and comes in to sleep, and if he wakes up early at 6 he comes in for cuddles. I dont mind it one little bit.

Somebodystired · 07/10/2019 21:14

You are honestly all too sweet.

He is a right pain in the bum sometimes, but I'm so lucky to have him. Have had some really hard times this year struggling with anxiety and now I'm finally getting it under control I feel like I him enjoy him again. Not that I ever really stopped, but I did really struggle!
