To tell you how proud I am of my son?

DS(2) started pre-school a month ago. I had a catch up with his key worker today to talk me through her initial assessments of him.

She has absolutely no concerns whatsoever - he is reaching all of his age appropriate milestones, and exceeding a few of them. She was a bit worried about his speech but he has caught up so quickly and is starting to use five-word sentences more regularly (he is 3 in six weeks).

I know none of this sounds exceptional, but -

I adopted my son just after he turned a year old. He was removed from his birth mum at birth, born at 32 weeks and spent the first weeks of his life in NICU. He has been through more in his little life than I would ever wish on my worst enemy, losing everything he has ever known and starting all over again. He even nearly moved in with another family who then "changed their mind" about adopting him just before his first birthday. He had been through introductions with them for a week and they decided not to bring him home on moving day.

I feel so overwhelmingly proud of him. He has overcome so much and to be told how he is thriving, how settled and happy he is there when I cant be with me, just makes my heart melt.

I've name changed since but here is my first post about him nearly two years ago...pleased to report I am still just as obsessed with him as I was back then Grin

I remember your original post and crying at the thought of that lovely little boy finally having a loving home. He clearly has a Mummy who adores him and you should be proud of yourself for raising such a happy little boy. Smile

I remember reading your first post about your son, it's wonderful to have an update to hear how he is thriving with you. As another poster said, you are lucky to have one another

AmelietheAlien · 07/10/2019 13:16

OP - I remember your first thread about your son - thank you for the update Flowers

I get frustrated when people on MN insist that all adopted children are "damaged" and have "issues". We adopted DD the same age as you adopted your boy, she is 15 now and - I'm not kidding - she has brought us nothing but love, pride and fun.

Adopted kids can be so brave and resilient, willing to put their trust in their new family and just grasp life with both hands Smile

RasberryR0ulade · 07/10/2019 13:19
