Skinny jeans tucked into boots

morrisseysquif · 06/10/2019 16:43

I was watching a you tube video the other day and there was one all about wearing jeans with boots. One of the comments was 'you do not tuck skinny jeans into ankle boots, that is a fashion NO' . There were quite a few comments in agreement.

I've always done this, and consider myself fairly stylish. In the winter, what else would you do? It is one of the reasons I buy skinny jeans, that they tuck into all sorts of boots and you avoid the wet hem scenario.

Am I a fashion disaster?

For me it depends on the length of boot, short ankle ones and I would be unable to tuck in most of my jeans (ankle grazers) but any longer and I would tuck them in. What would they do with knee high boots, hot pants for the school run I suppose 🤷‍♀️

I opened this thread to check it wasn’t about me as I did this for the first time today to go to a very posh town and was a bit paranoid about it! I usually do the roll up but it was just too wet and cold today, so into my lace up ankle boots they went. So should I have worn chunky socks folded down over them? We have enough trouble Keeping track with normal socks for the 5 of us without adding chunky socks in

bridgetreilly · 06/10/2019 17:36

People do it all the time and it is fine. However, I literally cannot bring myself to do it, because at a young and impressionable age I internalised the rule that you should never tuck jeans into boots. So, yeah.

DrVonPatak · 06/10/2019 17:40

They can do one with their "fashion no-nos". Haven't we got enough environmental issues without having to have different jeans for every pair of shoes? Nice way to get you to buy, buy, buy...!

FWIW, I tuck and I will always tuck. Warmer and makes my legs look nice.

DrVonPatak · 06/10/2019 17:45

Oh, and for what is worth, gap made people I've seen with it look shorter, stumpier and peasantish. Even the willowy ones.

TatianaLarina · 06/10/2019 17:46

Not been a fan since 1983.

The current skinnies-tucked-into-boots look is thigh boots.

SmoothLawAbider · 06/10/2019 17:53

Jeans? Boots? Alright grandmas! I would never be seen dead in jean or boots. Leggings or a dress with socks and sliders only.

Walnutwhipster · 06/10/2019 17:59

I couldn't care less if it's stylish but I'm currently sat in skinny jeans tucked in my Dubarry Galway boots. I'm a size six if that makes any difference.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 06/10/2019 18:03

I do the fold up jeans and the tucked in version depending on the length of the jeans /jeggings. I have very very skinny ankles so most boots look like wellies on me, so trucking in isn't really an option.

VirtualHamster · 06/10/2019 18:06

I think shorter jeans over ankle boots looks drafty and uncomfy, and therefore not stylish. Though I can see that it is currently being pushed as 'fashionable'

Most fashion seems to be about being uncomfortable imo.

BenWillbondsPants · 06/10/2019 18:09

I'm going to assume this comment is ironic and you don't really think that leggings are in any way the height of fashion. 😂

Doingtheboxerbeat · 06/10/2019 18:09

With the turn up version, I usually wear rolled down socks and an ankle bracelet because I'm that sad 😔.
At almost 48 I'm still trying to hang on to something Confused.

BeerandBiscuits · 06/10/2019 18:13

I wear shorter jeans with boots in summer. For winter I add 2 pairs of socks, thin ones go under the jeans and thick longer ones on top rolled up over the jeans. Bugger being stylish when it's freezing.

Pandaintheporridge · 06/10/2019 18:20

Bootcut can't come back in fast enough, imo.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 06/10/2019 18:22

Bamboo trainer socks are the answer.

Musicforsnorks · 06/10/2019 18:25

I’m out in the elements a lot so another here in dubarry’s worn with jeans tucked in or basic leggings.
The idea of boot jeans flapping around my ankles in rain just bothers me so doubt I’d conform to that trend.

If I was a bit more cosmopolitan I guess jeans hem touching top of my dr martens Chelsea boots would be ok. A very slight crop I can handle but not wide leg super crops!
If I wanted to wear crops I’d wear them with long slim boots underneath.

RolytheRhino · 06/10/2019 18:27

Surely you don't need to tuck them in- they're skintight so they're automatically inside whatever boot you're wearing. What's the alternative? Try and stuff your boot inside them? Buy your skinny jeans ten sizes too big? Wear seventies flares?

Doingtheboxerbeat · 06/10/2019 18:28

@Pandaintheporridge, I have to agree with that, bootcut /wilder bottom jeans were just on the way out when I bought a pair of.... White Crocs. I saw a crazy stylish lady wearing Crocs with flared jeans and I was sold.
I'll show myself out, thanks.

aintnothinbutagstring · 06/10/2019 18:36

Tucking skinnies into boots annoys me, I think I have sensory issues but I find the jeans end up escaping from the boots to gather further and further up my ankles, not a good look. I do a neat fold, but not really showing any bare ankle. I have the relaxed shorter jeans too that can't be tucked in.

EntropyRising · 06/10/2019 18:38

They're back, well and truly.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 06/10/2019 18:39

Skinnies seem to be on the way out now, before them we had boot cut jeans worn outside boots. Just another fashion cycle. Wear what you like.

ChilledBee · 06/10/2019 18:40

I think they're saying not to wear ankle boots with skinny Jeans at all. Only calf or higher. I've heard this before but I think it is a very American fashion faux pas.

ChilledBee · 06/10/2019 18:40

I'm also not a fan of blue Jean's and black boots. Should be brown with blue. Same with mens suits.

SaveKevin · 06/10/2019 18:45

Clearly not advice for the short and dumpy! Cut off jeans just accentuate that problem
