Skinny jeans tucked into boots

morrisseysquif · 06/10/2019 16:43

I was watching a you tube video the other day and there was one all about wearing jeans with boots. One of the comments was 'you do not tuck skinny jeans into ankle boots, that is a fashion NO' . There were quite a few comments in agreement.

I've always done this, and consider myself fairly stylish. In the winter, what else would you do? It is one of the reasons I buy skinny jeans, that they tuck into all sorts of boots and you avoid the wet hem scenario.

Am I a fashion disaster?

That's weird. I remember back when skinny jeans were just coming into vogue, post boot-cut, I read an article suggesting that you could ease yourself into skinny jeans by tucking them into your boots to a much better effect than boot-cut.

MaudesMum · 06/10/2019 17:04

I wear them tucked into slouchy mid-calf boots - not sure that is better or worse??

Thehagonthehill · 06/10/2019 17:04

Bring back ankle warmers!
I am wearing jeggings(have lost weight and the hold in the loose skin until my muscles catch up with no muffin effect) and thick socks. What I really need is socks that just have a thicker top bit to stop the draught.
I'm far to old the worry about trends so adapt to my own style.

Idontneeditatall · 06/10/2019 17:06

I’m afraid I agree with the video, I hate jeans tucked into boots!

Chloe9 · 06/10/2019 17:07

I'd rather make a fashion faux pas than get cold ankles

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 06/10/2019 17:08

I've given up following fashion rules. I'm a size 20 and have fat ankles, the last thinking want to do is draw attention to them by making a point of that being the only bit of skin on show. I tend to wear calf high boots with Jean's anyway and save my ankle boots to wear with dresses.

1984isnow · 06/10/2019 17:11

I always leave a gap now, because jeans going all the way down into ankle boots look weird on me these days, but they never used to.

I'm so sure boots are different now, they narrow in at the ankle too much and it looks weird (to me). When I was younger (only talking 10 years ago) I had both ankle and knee highs and they were just straight, and it looked better. Does anyone else know what I mean?

CinnamonMentos · 06/10/2019 17:12

The rolled up look is ok in summer with trainers. In winter, I wear them tucked in with my long boots and my long coat. Extra layer of warmth! Everyone I know does the same.

LellyMcKelly · 06/10/2019 17:14

Wait, what? Bootcut jeans are out? You’re kidding me.

ThisIsTheThirdTime · 06/10/2019 17:14

Yes you fold the hem up so they are shorter than the boot. I have tried this. I look AWFUL and not remotely fashionable. More like a short little blob with cold ankles. I tuck them in, it makes my legs look longer.

Ellie56 · 06/10/2019 17:16

Shock I am aghast at the idea of not tucking skinny jeans into boots. If it's cold enough to wear boots it's too cold to be rolling jeans up.Perish the thought!

grumiosmum · 06/10/2019 17:17

Skinnies tucked into boots was the height of style about 10 years ago.

So it depends if you mind or care about that sort of thing or not.

As ups have said, rolled up to show a little ankle now seems to be the thing ...

AuntieStella · 06/10/2019 17:19

I think shorter jeans over ankle boots looks drafty and uncomfy, and therefore not stylish. Though I can see that it is currently being pushed as 'fashionable'

It is not a fashion I shall be adopting, and I'll be quite surprised if it catches on. People like to be comfy, and skinnies inside boots works so well.

BearSoFair · 06/10/2019 17:21

I always tuck them in...but I'm not sure I've ever been fashionable to start with! Grin

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/10/2019 17:22

I hate to see blue jeans tucked into black boots

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/10/2019 17:24

Agree with PP, if I'm wearing both boots and jeans it's probably blardy cold, so flashing an inch or two of ankle is not going to be happening

icantfind · 06/10/2019 17:24

I’ve done the turn up thing with trainers in summer. But with boots, what do you do about socks if you’ve have ankle showing?! Trainers with trainer socks, boots with trainer socks = cold and rubbing!

CAG12 · 06/10/2019 17:25

@morrisseysquif roll the jeans up a little so theres a tiny gap. Thats the way these days!

But really, however you're comfy tbh

Horehound · 06/10/2019 17:25

Little gap. Very stylish what a load of utter shite. Wear your jeans however you like, OP.

ElizaPancakes · 06/10/2019 17:26

I cuff them wheb wearing ankle boots and tuck into knee high or calf high biker boots.

MitziK · 06/10/2019 17:27

A 'bit of ankle' just looks like somebody needs their Mum to take them shopping for the next size up in school uniform or they're about to go paddling in the sea. Just because Hipster men did it with their tweed blazers, big beards, deck shoes and unicycles seven years ago, it doesn't mean that anybody else should do it and expect to look anything but a bit chilly.

But then again, I am the person who has been delighted to find that standard length 7/8 trousers look like they are tailormade to fit me as full length trousers.

Horehound · 06/10/2019 17:28

Actually that screen shot SillyLittleBiscuit posted makes the wearer look about 12 years old.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 06/10/2019 17:30

I hate to see blue jeans tucked into black boots

OOh I know. Blue jeans into black boots.

Just kidding, as if you go round town being shocked at blue jeans tucked into black boots. The horror the horror.

Rivergreen · 06/10/2019 17:32

Depends on the ankle boot. The ones that are in the shops now are all narrow at the ankle and those are the ones that you're "supposed" to roll jeans up for. (I don't, but I don't wear them with jeans at all: tucking in is uncomfortable, but rolled up looks daft and bulky)

But ankle boots of a few years ago were much wider at the ankle and those look infinitely better with jeans tucked in, imo. Especially when you have stumpy little legs like me!

EntropyRising · 06/10/2019 17:32

What's the problem with blue jeans and black boots?

Is it a preference for brown boots with jeans? What if you're wearing a black jumper + black belt + jeans?
