It's put me in such a rage preparing packed lunches and it happens every time. What am I doing wrong?!

Do you crack and roll?

flapjackfairy · 06/10/2019 12:36

I let them cool then roll them on the worktop to crack the shell all over . Then start to peel one bit and get under themembrane inside the shell . The rest should then slide off cleanly. Don't push too hard when rolling though !

iklboo · 06/10/2019 12:38

Chill / cool the egg then crack & roll like PP. it was a revelation.

YobaOljazUwaque · 06/10/2019 12:40

This happens if the eggs aren't evenly cooled. How are you cooling them after cooking?

Imoan123 · 06/10/2019 12:40

Don't use freshly bought eggs.

Cleverplayonwords · 06/10/2019 12:40

Slightly older eggs are easier to peel.

Crack at the bottom (the fatter bit), slide a teaspoon under the shell and peel using it. Running under cold water helps.

CherryPie13 · 06/10/2019 12:40

Add some salt to the water as you boil them.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/10/2019 12:41

Put the egg in a glass half full of water.

Put hand over the top to stop water coming out and shake hard until shell is cracked.

Skin just slides off!

Fruityb · 06/10/2019 12:42

Baking powder in the water when you boil them. Shell will come right off.

Thehagonthehill · 06/10/2019 12:43

Put in cold water as soon as ready, crack shells. You need to break the membrane to get the shell off cleanly.

longwayoff · 06/10/2019 12:43

Crack them when cooked and fill saucepan with cold water. The water will slip under the membrane inside the shell. The shell will slip off as you peel. Dry and use.

Nicolastuffedone · 06/10/2019 12:45

Crack and slide a teaspoon under the shell

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/10/2019 12:45

Like this

pooopypants · 06/10/2019 12:45

Slightly older eggs are best as there is a small amount of gas inside the egg and this allows the white to separate from the shell. I have chickens but have to either keep eggs for a week or so or buy shop bought if I want hard.boiled as fresh just won't work

EmeraldShamrock · 06/10/2019 12:49

Definitely cool them if you have time, although it often happens to me after I cool them. I am hit and miss with all eggs too.
My poached eggs are a similar disaster.

GreySheep · 06/10/2019 12:51

Baking powder in the water.

Crack and roll in tea towel.

Thank you all for such helpful tips and hints, off to try them out!

I've just had some hard boiled eggs! crack and peel in cold water.

KUGA · 06/10/2019 13:16

put the egg in half a glass of cold water and put your hand over it and shake like mad.
Seriously does work.

Inebriati · 06/10/2019 13:20

I drop them into cold water, crack the shell and membrane, and get the egg wet. I'm going to try KUGA's method.
