In a nutshell I had my dd assessed for dyslexia back on August 26th. I paid to have it done privately (£375) and we went to the assessors house and he done what he needed to do fir about 2.5 hours then we had a chat about his findings and I would get the full report soon.

I gave as much info as possible, old school reports and filled out the questionnaire etc as thoroughly as possible to help the assessor with the report.

As it was the school holidays I couldn’t get the teacher to fill out their part (although I didn’t feel this would really impact on the assessor doing the majority of the report, as I had already added what school sat the issues are etc....) and I didn’t want to hand it to teacher on first day when it’s mayhem and expect them to fill it out then.

I emailed the assessor and asked if he still needs the school to fill out their bit? (one A4 piece of paper with a little bit of room to write how dc struggles) And he never replied 🙄

The reason I didn’t really want to get school to fill it out if I didn’t need to was-

A) his new teacher has known him for a couple of days, so she’d need to get his previous teacher to do it, who’s already got her own new class

B) it’s the start of a new term and they’re so busy that I did the want to add to their stress for something that I didn’t feel the assessor find out anymore info than they’d already been given.

So I send a message asking if he NEEDS the school form but filled in. He replied yes that would be helpful 🙄 (so that was a week wasted, waiting for him to reply)

So I get school to fill it out and low and behold, there’s no more info than what he already has, from school reports, my info, evidence of dds work, and her IEP.... they add a couple of lines and that it!

Now I sent him that 3 weeks ago yesterday so he has everything he needs and I’ve still not got the report back!!! I sent him an email last week asking how long it was likely to take and he says hopefully by the end of this week gone.

I’m thinking if it wasn’t paid for privately then fair enough, but that’s why we paid so we could get a diagnose ASAP so the school could start helping our DC.

I feel like he’s taking the piss now.he should have been upfront and said it takes about 4/5 weeks before taking the money!!

Would you be annoyed?

A month is about standard for a dyslexia report, in my experience. They are very very detailed and specific. Factor in the delay for not having the school report and I think it sounds about normal.
