To mourn MN as it was in the Moulden Days

GregoriaTheGreat · 02/10/2019 21:59

Admittedly, it was not perfect (full of quiches and Queen Bees). So much so that I gave it a rest for a considerable while. I may even have Flounced at some point (though was not a Mouldie. I would never have been cool enough).

But I now mourn the Olden Days when nobody had to bother with "lighthearted" when a thread was evidently lighthearted. Nobody took everything quite so seriously, even when they would have good reason to.

Posters generally had a decent command of spelling and grammar, too.

Maybe I'm just old and need to take up knitting or something.

Glenda I think she waffled on about it was not a nice word but it was often used to mean completely broken, and then when I asked how you broke a hedgehog she told me to ask my dad Grin.

ScrambledSmegs · 04/10/2019 18:29

AtYourCervix! Fab name.

PlacidPenelope · 04/10/2019 18:29

Placid! Fame awaits you, you can ascend the legendary Mount MN and bathe in the blood of fresh neophytes

My life's work is complete I shall forever be remembered on a Chat Forum on the Internet, hurrah!

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 04/10/2019 18:30

I asked how you broke a hedgehog

Brilliant. :o

PlacidPenelope · 04/10/2019 18:40

ScrambledSmegs Lord no! I've not had a miserable time on MN at all, I was, like some others, just putting across a different point of view to the "It was all fabulous, darling, and now those johhny come latelys have totally spoiled it" spiel.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 04/10/2019 18:56

Ahhh shirleyknott, I liked her. AtYourCervix was lovely and one of the best names ever

I've been here about 9 years or so now , it did seem a bit clique like at times but usually if you asked on a thread about an in joke someone would tell you

I miss the funny threads , chaos I think it was who lost her toaster. You'd have to use some sort of jokey disclaimer these days

CatTheifKeith also knew how to get everyone laughing . Such a sad loss

Zombie was the first poster to talk to me. I'd been on here for ages. She offered to let me stay in her bin to have a break from the dcs 🤣

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 04/10/2019 18:58

Aww, Drank! Am waving at you, Showy, Hully and various other oldies. Nice to see everyone. The level of bitterness to old timers having a wander down memory lane is astonishing really.

ScrambledSmegs · 04/10/2019 19:00

I remember when this was all UNIX

Dljlr · 04/10/2019 19:00

This thread is the internet equivalent of stumbling over an old episode of EastEnders or The Bill ☺️

Dljlr · 04/10/2019 19:01

Anyone else remember the thrill of being able to post blank posts, and nearly breaking Tech's head?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 04/10/2019 19:01

Oh my! Shock

I also just googled 'AthelstaneTheUnready + reddit' and there's one on there banging on about giving up wanking for November! Shock

Who'd a thunk there was a Walter Scott fiend out there who Venn Diagrammed with 'concerning wanking levels'?

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 04/10/2019 19:04

Oh yes the blank posts

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 04/10/2019 19:06

^^

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 04/10/2019 19:07

Oooh.

Still works.

ScrambledSmegs · 04/10/2019 19:08

I never worked out how to do blank posts. At least I think I did once, and then promptly forgot.

I remember a weird glitch that ended up creating the Batminge threads. Unsurprisingly it was Honeydragon who found it and we all got a bit drunk with power. They fixed that one pretty sharpish.

ScrambledSmegs · 04/10/2019 19:09

Glenda! You rebel!

Grin
PlacidPenelope · 04/10/2019 19:19

The level of bitterness to old timers having a wander down memory lane is astonishing really.

Equally astonishing that new timers, relatively new timers and not so old timers musn't put forward a different point of view and should grin and bear without any challenge being told that they have effectively ruined the site because it was changed by them joining.

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 19:30

I could never do blank posts or anything. And I remember dear kind biwi trying to teach me twitter with more patience than any saint.

Hullygully · 04/10/2019 19:32

Hello next phone (who are you?)
And Bucharest of course I know you.

Placid you are a bit of a one trick pony. Won't you just join in and have fun with us right now in the moment?

exLtEveDallas · 04/10/2019 19:34

I used to get Budapest and Bucharest mixed up - Drank was so much easier!

Slaymill · 04/10/2019 19:36

Thanks nofuckingone for the link to the original 'oh-fuck-ruck-sack' thread. I found it in chat from 2010 nearly ten ago!

I'm surprised it never went to Classics and I still want a Giraffe knife and geiger counter.

RustyBear · 04/10/2019 19:55

I used to get Budapest and Bucharest mixed up
So did Michael Jackson, who famously addressed the Romanian crowd from the balcony of the Parliament Palace 'Hello Budapest'...

OhTheRoses · 04/10/2019 20:00

So many names I remember. Oh the Christmas parties were fabulous circa 2012 I think. It would be marvellous to recreate. I remember meeting DollyTwat, Hully, Pag, BIWI, GetOrf, Cointreau, LRD, Zombie in her red frock, NeedMoreSleep, Beachy, TheTripletsMum, a poster with Dittany on her head who wasn't, AnnieLobesder, MrsDeV (who I was too in awe of to actually speak to), Shirley Knot, KeemaNan, SBG (so diametrically different to me but how we laughed), and Blondes - oh I am so thrilled Blondes had a baby.

So many wonderful people, and yes I think it is more pedestrian now or is it that it's all been done before. Since then have name changed a zillion times. People used to call me a smug bastard and turn back the clock ten years I'd never have imagined having a child develop mh problems and go down that particular rabbit hole but mn now as then has helped keep me sane and I hope sometimes I give something back.

I have met many marvellous people virtually and in rl. I tend not to remember the real cunts and always to keep my glass at least half full.

A toast Wine

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 04/10/2019 20:12

Canterbury
You are right it was TDWP. WWC posted a pile of shite on the boards but later came back in what appeared to be genuine distress but at that point nobody was comfortable believing her.

PhilomenaButterfly · 04/10/2019 20:21

I can't remember who I was then Fid. EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck maybe?
