AIBU to report people using blue badge parking spot to school?

One of my dc is disabled and has a blue badge. They are not at school yet, but often come with me or dh to drop/collect siblings.

There is one disabled parking spot at school, however we are rarely able to use it due to a number of ‘repeat offenders’ who use the spot despite not having a blue badge (or at least without displaying one). One person in particular likes to mount the kerb, I think in an attempt to not quite park in the spot, however this makes it impossible for anyone else to actually park in the spot Hmm

AIBU to report to the school? maybe a reminder to not use the space unless displaying a badge would solve the issue? I don’t want to make a fuss, and hate anything like this that reminds us of my dc disability, but it’s getting very frustrating...

Yanbu - I don't even have need of a disabled space but it drives me mad when I see people abusing them. Definitely say something!

Fairylea · 02/10/2019 18:55

Definitely report. My son has a blue badge (he has autism and learning disabilities and has severe meltdowns) and this type of thing drives me crazy.

Please report it. Ask the school to support you.

I hope it gets sorted and I wish some people weren't such selfish idiots!

Aren’t blue badges one of the most abused items or have I got that wrong?

PurpleDaisies · 02/10/2019 19:39

YANBU at all.

BottleOfJameson · 02/10/2019 19:40

YANBU definitely report it.

I have a blue badge, I also used a walker/chair.

Today, I was almost unable to park in one of the few spaces in town, because a lorry and another commercial van were parked in most of the area.

I kicked up a huge embarrassing fuss because I'm sick of being disabled and being like this, and then entitled cunts think its OK to take our spaces.

In a bid to shut me up (I think), OH called over a traffic warden. Who was useless and said it couldn't be enforced due to unclear signage.

They've only just redesigned the town centre and put the effing signs up! Total twats in this area.
Yes, speak to the school, better to try and fail than not try at all. Hopefully they'll have some sympathy.

Yes report it. Dont have to make a big fuss, just let them know so a message can be sent out.
My dd school recently put a message on the parents app thing to remind everyone to be considerate when parks near the school as people park in front of houses and the roads nearby so similar thing. Someone must have said something.

Our local council website has a page where you can report issues such as this with photos where appropriate and they will follow up. If word from school does not deter the repeat offender(s) I would report.

Farfarfaraway · 02/10/2019 20:13

Yep you have to be a special kind of twat to park in a disabled space when you don’t have a blue badge

Farfarfaraway · 02/10/2019 20:14

Though saying that I do have sympathy with those with disabilities who need a blue badge but due to tightening up the rules can’t get one

Celticrose · 02/10/2019 20:25

I thought the blue badge could only be used for the benefit of the holder. If your dc is not actually getting out of the car but remaining in the car then you can't use the badge I believe. My mum has one and I can't park in a disabled spot and go shopping and leave her in the car as that is against the rules as far as I know. Apologies if they are getting out of the car and going into the school with you. You will need the disabled parking space when they do start school. I would have no hesitation in asking the person to move and let you park if they have no blue badge.

Just block them in and take your time!
