Baby not reaching & grasping

I’ve seen other threads on this but cannot see what the outcome is as people don’t report back.

My baby (5 months) doesn’t really seem to show much interest in toys, reach out for them and grasp them. If I open his hands and put something in them he will hold it but drop it after a few seconds (will grip my fingers tightly though). Eyesight seems fine as he tracks us around the room and our fingers etc.

Anyone experienced this with their DC who could tell me what the outcome was? Not sure whether it’s something to be concerned about or not. Thanks!

No experience sorry. If you are worried though you can speak to your health visitor.

My DD was exactly like this at 4-5 months. She showed very little interest in any objects at all and seemed to just prefer looking around and listening to people chat.

Everything changed quite suddenly at around 5.5 months when we started sitting her up. In the space of 1-2 weeks she went from not even reaching out for things to picking everything up and putting it in her mouth.

Have you tried a bumble style chair with the activities table on top? This encouraged my DD to engage with objects but didn't rely on her having to hold things. She still loves it.

Now my DD is actually quite far on in her fine motor skills. But speak to the heath visitor if you're worried.
