Dog being abused- What to do???

Writing anonymously, no names, pronouns etc as this is about immediate family.

I know there are many animal lovers/dog owners on here so thought I'd seek some advice needed quite urgently.
I live with family, one of them has a dog (seen as the family dog but owner makes it very clear that it is his dog!)
Owner has been very neglectful and abusive to dog over the years- I have tried to step in on a number of occasions and been told to move out of the way, mind my business etc etc. I told senior family member (SF) in confidence that if this doesn't stop I will report to nspca and have dog taken away for dogs own good.
SF said you cant do that, your bringing trouble to our doorstep and to your own family. I left it alone. It has continued. Dog is in bad state, underweight, taken for walks very rarely, allowed to poo/wee all over front garden, goes toilet in house as not taken out. Today dog defecate in house and all over garden, owner punches him, kicks him and berates him (outside might I add) dog is howling, shaking. I am in my room which faces front garden and see it happen. I cant go downstairs and confront him because he has a temper and will make huge scene in front of people and I dont want to draw attention to the situation. Looked up nspca to report but have to give name, number etc and possibly appear in court. I can not make it known that it is me reporting it, all hell will break loose if found out. Please advise. I have to step out now which is why I've written this way, may have left out important info, will come back to page when I am free again.

Has the dog been rescued yet? Lots of people are concerned, can you please update?

PepePig · 07/10/2019 17:38

Report and stop letting that poor animal suffer. How awful.

CampfireZen · 09/10/2019 15:46

Any further development, OP?

Pamrigby · 09/10/2019 19:03

Hi, not yet. Have called around but as mentioned earlier there are long waiting lists etc. SF is fully on board now so also looking for somewhere.

God, what a frustrating situation.

Seems like you're now trying to go down all possible avenues to get this poor dog permanently rescued from abuse, and keep him safe until then, and nobody you're begging to help IRL is making it straightforward for you to do so.

Hope things improve. Keep us posted.
