As there’s a Corbyn/ labour bashing thread- let’s hear all the really good Tory policies that don’t include repeating ad infinitum ‘get Brexit done’....

Let’s hear about all the good the Tories plan to achieve in the next 5 years

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 29/09/2019 12:08

“MN is predominantly left wing.”
Why do you think that?

Oh its lazy thinking by lazy thinkers. I've been told I'm a Corbynista, let-leaning, Monumentum stooge by so many posters on here just because I argue the case for Remain.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/09/2019 12:21

There's sod all pint in this, or any of the other party favouring threads.

Poiticians thee days ALL belng to politically bankrupt organisations. We have had our democracy stolen from us. We cannot rely on any of them to do what hey say they will. They all have the weirdest of manifestos, seemingly designed to appeal to very small % of the population, the % that might tip the scales in a GE.

Labour's is desgined to lose this one, they don't want to have to be the ones who deal with Brexit
LibDems are way out there in the hinterlands of strange disconnectedness
Tories are bulldozing through whatever pops its head over the parapet at any given time

We don't actually have a functioning government, opposition or any other party. They have grandstanded and blustered their way to a ful stop. There is no way out of Brexit, in or out. As has been said for a while now, the UK has become Hotel California in reality!

And we voted for this... whichever party we voted for!

Fuck them all!

Vote for your loal, single issue candiate if/when a GE is called. Se how we get on with a load of independent, local politicians running the country. Couldn't be any worse.

And do make the effort, or UKIP will get in (or similar)

Helmetbymidnight · 29/09/2019 12:29

How did people who didn't vote for David Cameron, and didn't vote for leave vote for this shit?

I'm not taking responsibility for the referendum or Brexit. Why should I?

CendrillonSings · 29/09/2019 12:29

Hopefully some tax cuts, at long last. But really, Labour is proposing such terrible policy changes that all Boris has to do to be awesome is not to do them!

A large part of voting Conservative is not wanting things to change too dramatically...

PerkingFaintly · 29/09/2019 12:31

It bloody can be.

What if my local candidate's single issue is anti-abortion? Or pro-racism?

They may well be a chancer with no political track record to be judged on, who gets into office and then ransacks the place.

On a smaller scale, IIRC where the BNP have got local councillors in on their single-issue message, the councillors have frequently been shit – not turned up, not done much work, basically only wanted the title not the job.

PerkingFaintly · 29/09/2019 12:32

Well that failed, then, didn't it, CendrillionSing.

Kinda big time...

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/09/2019 12:33

Not change too dramatically? Better stop no deal Brexit then. The Tories have been taken over by a hard right element.

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2019 12:34

“And do make the effort, or UKIP will get in (or similar)“

Yep- this. The “i’m not going to vote for any of them” line really terrifies me.

CendrillonSings · 29/09/2019 12:37

If it’s a choice between No Deal and a socialist demolition job on the country, I’ll take No Deal every time!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/09/2019 12:41

A rich, first world country stockpiling food and medicine during peacetime isn’t a demolition job?

I’m afraid the idea that the opposition would be worse is a busted flush given that the Tories have turned the UK into an international laughing stock.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/09/2019 12:49

What if my local candidate's single issue is anti-abortion? Or pro-racism? In local elections there is always more than one. And they often directly oppose each other. So if there is a racist twat there will almost certainly be one in direct opposition.

They may well be a chancer with no political track record to be judged on, who gets into office and then ransacks the place. That's how they all start! That happened here last time. The BNP type was quickly recognised as a loose cannoon and is held in check by the rest of the council.

IRC where the BNP have got local councillors in on their single-issue message, the councillors have frequently been shit – not turned up, not done much work, basically only wanted the title not the job. Then do a bit of research, meet them, ask them, vet them!

I did this last time, it was quite an educational experience. Our UKIPer was well liked and the Indy man was a bit of a blank canvas, but was trying to promote a "valuemyvote" thing that meant we would all get to to tell him how he should vote in parliament! Like a series of largely uninformed, vox pop, who shouts loudest referendums!

So maybe I am just overly annoyed... but I WILL be looking at the alternatives to Mr Wannabe PM But Couldn't Get Any Votes!

CendrillonSings · 29/09/2019 12:53

Once the cowardly opposition gets shamed into calling an election we’ll find out exactly how popular socialism is Smile

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/09/2019 12:59

The UKs socialist healthcare system is very popular Smile. Shame it’s being rundown by the Tories and Brexit.

CendrillonSings · 29/09/2019 13:05

Exactly - we have quite enough socialism already without adding more.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/09/2019 13:08

Maybe you should encourage the Tories to scrap the NHS, see how popular it is?

SilverySurfer · 29/09/2019 13:10

BertrandRussell
“MN is predominantly left wing.”
Why do you think that?

It's what I have observed over the many years I've been on MN. I think I'm going to start a thread with a poll - will be interesting to see.

CendrillonSings · 29/09/2019 13:13

No thanks - it’s flawed, but we’re not vicious enough to abolish things just because they’re not perfect. Unlike Labour and their planned abolition of private schools, for example.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/09/2019 13:21

So we’re agreed socialist principles can work. Good.

CendrillonSings · 29/09/2019 13:24

I certainly agree they can work badly! Grin

AnneElliott · 29/09/2019 14:55

BertrandRussel - it's interesting that you see this site as right leaning. I agree some threads certainly go that way, but for me, the reason why I thinks it's a left wing site is the absolute vitriolic hatred against people who vote Tory.

You only have to look at some of the political threads to see comments like 'Tories are voting for benefit cuts that kill people' 'I could never be friends with a Tory' 'People who vote Tory are heartless'

I just don't see the opposite on here - yes people don't like JC, but no one suggests that voting Labour is inherently wicked/stupid/evil etc.

I've worked for both Conservative and Labour Ministers (as well as Lib Dems in the coalition) and in general they are very similar; they all want to improve the UK but they have different ideas of how they get there.

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2019 15:12

“no one suggests that voting Labour is inherently wicked/stupid/evil etc.”
Really? Not wicked perhaps. But jealous definitely. Hating other people. Wanting to “run the country down”. Maybe we only see the vitriol directed towards our own viewpoint!

Ruby2065 · 29/09/2019 15:45

Love the let’s hope there’ll be some tax cuts along ! Why do so many just look out for themselves ? Surely well funded, well functioning public services and fair meaningful investment are vital because austerity went well didn’t it, hitting some areas more than others ? Instead you have large proportions of the country generally angry and frustrated that life is essentially crap and envious that other areas have it easy. If people think after Brexit “that’s it, job done” and we go back to the same old inequalities we had before there will be more division x100

Ruby2065 · 29/09/2019 15:52

And just to add why can’t certain posters admit (looking at cendrillion)
that some labour policies are good, minimum wage, surestart etc as are some conservative ones. I hate this dogmatic “socialism’s crap, labour are crap” rhetoric. That why political discourse in this country is so messed up at the moment because everyone is so polarised and jus see things in black and white.

motorcyclenumptiness · 29/09/2019 16:29

It's only a matter of time before Boris makes his horse a consul. So there's that.
