As there’s a Corbyn/ labour bashing thread- let’s hear all the really good Tory policies that don’t include repeating ad infinitum ‘get Brexit done’....

Let’s hear about all the good the Tories plan to achieve in the next 5 years

OP posts:

I agree there's lots of criticism of JC on here. No dispute about that.

But MN is a predominantly left leaning site and some of the posts on here about people who vote Conservative means it's highly unlikely that the op will get any genuine responses.

noblegiraffe · 29/09/2019 10:28

Funding increases in education would only put funding at 2010 levels. Which means that the funding increases in education are basically saying ‘we totally got it wrong for the last 9 years, austerity has been shit for education BUT we’re not willing to actually increase funding to where it should be had we not fucked things up consistently since we came into power’.

Education needs far more funding than Boris is promising.

Milicentbystander72 · 29/09/2019 10:29

I despair if the lot of them, but he did not say the death of Jo Cox was humbug

Indeed he didn't. People don't listen properly or twist words to fit their own views.
None of the whole house showered themselves in glory that day.

Btw, it was ruled (therefore making new law) that Boris illegally shut Parliament. I was not ruled he lied to the Queen. They said they couldn't rule in this.

Not that it matters hugely. Just language.

Ruby2065 · 29/09/2019 10:31

Let's be honest the tories will probably win any election by a landslide much as I hate to say it. Leavers love him because he's steadfastly promising brexit whatever the costs, even those in chronically socioeconomically deprived regions who've taken the brunt of austerity. Then you've got longterm tory remainers as evidenced in other threads who hate corbyn and won't entertain the libdems either. This divide in the country is going to continue for years to come because even if we leave, the issues that caused it aren't going to be tackled honestly. Can you imagine a tory government ever admitting that austerity was an absolute failure and caused untold damage ?

HappydaysArehere · 29/09/2019 10:34

I wouldn’t believe a promise that comes out of Johnson’s mouth.
Corbyn is only a front man for the hard left.
There are good people in the Labour Party but they are being sat upon again by the hard left.
I am left with no choice but the Liberals.
The country is being damaged by the day so austerity and recession is likely. So forget promises made by any party now.

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2019 10:35

“But MN is a predominantly left leaning site and some of the posts on here about people who vote Conservative means it's highly unlikely that the op will get any genuine responses.”
Interesting.i perceive this as a predominately centre/ right of centre site. So that means it’s probably pretty balanced!

noblegiraffe · 29/09/2019 10:35

Why would he win by a landslide starting from a majority of -43?
He’ll lose seats in Scotland due to Ruth Davidson going.

The Lib Dems had 57 seats in 2010, why the assumption that they are more toxic than the Tories or Labour who have hardly covered themselves in glory recently?

Milicentbystander72 · 29/09/2019 10:38

Indeed I voted for Tony Blair and Gordon Browns Labour Party.
I've voted Lib Dem 3 times and Tory once before.

I do like to wait, watch, read and decide.

I cannot vote for Corbyns Labour. Just no.

I've never known political times like this. I don't think I'm going to agree with all policies from any party. However, I'm not ruling out Tory this time.

SilverySurfer · 29/09/2019 10:38

*AnneElliottt My response was genuine and I've never been left leaning in my life.

Bertrand I also find it puzzling why anyone voted for Johnson but him being leader doesn't mean I would vote for any other party.

chomalungma · 29/09/2019 10:40

but he did not say the death of Jo Cox was humbug

He did dismiss the comments that Paula Sheriff said about the threats to MPs as humbug.

He claims it was a misunderstanding and he was commenting on the use of language.

A decent human being would have listened to what Paula Sheriff had said, said that he felt that threats against MPs were appalling and then - if he wanted to - tried and made the point that he wanted to use the words about the Benn Bill that he wanted to.

But he is not a decent human being.

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2019 10:44

“However, I'm not ruling out Tory this time.”

Fine if you don’t want to of course-but could you say a little bit about how you can swing from Labour to Tory? Are you voting for local MPs?

Paintedmaypole · 29/09/2019 10:51

I am seeing people from across the political spectrum posting on MN. I would not say that it is left leaning from what I have read.

countrygirl99 · 29/09/2019 10:54

Actually he must be very clever as he's already achieved 2 things most people would consider impossible

  1. he made people hope Jeremy Hunt would be PM
  2. he makes Jeremy Corbyn look almost statesmanlike
Ruby2065 · 29/09/2019 10:59

I just don't get how someone can swing from labour to tory ? Whole ideology
is very different. Trouble is brexit is now the sole objective, people want it at any cost even if it damages the economy and their everyday lives - they'll happily vote for bj and the tories whatever their manifesto promises and even if those policies are diametrically opposed to their fundamental political beliefs.

Milicentbystander72 · 29/09/2019 11:01

Fine if you don’t want to of course-but could you say a little bit about how you can swing from Labour to Tory? Are you voting for local MPs?

I'm not going to go into every tiny opinion I had back in 2015 (the last time I voted Labour). I thought Gordon Brown was a steady hand to honest, despite the world recession. I think he made the right and brave choice to bail out the banks.
My constituency is a very safe Labour seat.

I worried at the coalition government but on reflection (possibly compared to now) it was a decent government.

I didn't warm to Ed Milliband or my local Labour MP in 2017. Libdems didn't put up any candidates in my area. So I plumped for Cameron. Not that it mattered as Labour will always get in here.

Milicentbystander72 · 29/09/2019 11:03

And before anyone accuses me of not replying....I'm off to work.

Paintedmaypole · 29/09/2019 11:03

And still no one has come up with anything that would be good about a Boris Johnson Tory government, although some intend to vote for it.

Lyingonthesofainthedark · 29/09/2019 11:05

I think it is a shitshow. And that Rees-Mogsy is a sneering arse.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/09/2019 11:06

Coalition government gave us austerity, hardly “decent”policy. Austerity partly led to the brexit vote.

BiggerBoat1 · 29/09/2019 11:09

He's raising twattery to a whole new level.

That is the only achievement I'm aware of.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/09/2019 11:10

It makes my Italian friends feel a little better after years of Berlusconi jokes.

Ruby2065 · 29/09/2019 11:28

What’s tragic is that many decent people who genuinely thought voting leave would change the uk for the better, put an end to austerity and ensure more equal redistribution of investment, basically a protest vote against Cameron and osbourne have been seduced by those very charlatans who believe in austerity and small state etc.

GrandmaSteglitszch · 29/09/2019 11:47

it was ruled (therefore making new law) that Boris illegally shut Parliament

Surely that ruling was based on existing law.
If new law was being made, then Boris would not have been judged to have acted illegally before that law came into force.

It was setting a precedent for interpretation & use of the existing law.

bluebeck · 29/09/2019 12:01

Sweet Fuck All

SilverySurfer · 29/09/2019 12:02

Paintedmaypole
I am seeing people from across the political spectrum posting on MN. I would not say that it is left leaning from what I have read.

MN is predominantly left wing. I think there are a lot of Labour voters who won't vote for a Corbyn government, obviously won't vote Torys, so are left with the LibDims and Greens - talk about a rock and a hard place.
