As there’s a Corbyn/ labour bashing thread- let’s hear all the really good Tory policies that don’t include repeating ad infinitum ‘get Brexit done’....

Let’s hear about all the good the Tories plan to achieve in the next 5 years

Should we not wait until after Tory party conference to criticise their policies. I think that will be when we’d get to hear what magic and glorious unicorns we will be promised?

I think all parties like to promise gifts from the magic money tree. I think anyone would be a fool to believe any of it comes without cost.

Paintedmaypole · 29/09/2019 08:12

I can not think of one sensible Tory Policy that will benefit anyone but the super rich. All I can think of are silly soundbites like "Take back control".

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/09/2019 08:12

The Tories have previously attacked other parties who pledged public spending by using the magic money tree jibe. Now they are throwing tax payers money around like confetti at the same time as running the economy into the ground with Brexit.

SeaWitchly · 29/09/2019 08:21

Remarkable how they found the magic money tree

HmmGrinGrin

longwayoff · 29/09/2019 08:28

Doublethink. Doublespeak. Double or quits on the future of this country.

To ask you what you think is good about a Boris Johnson Tory government
chomalungma · 29/09/2019 08:32

I think that he wants to raise the rate people pay 40% tax from £50,000 up to £80,000.

I am looking forward to him selling that idea to those Leave constituencies where they have low median income and feel left behind.

Paintedmaypole · 29/09/2019 09:15

This is slipping down the page because no one can think of a good policy Grin

FreshwaterBay · 29/09/2019 09:22

The Conservative party has moved more right. They will suck in Brexit votes to get Brexit done, while simultaneously bring in an agenda to privatise the NHS. The new hospitals and other sector’s spending will be managed under greater PFI projects with all the profits going to 100 or so well connected right-wing family businesses. More will be spent but more profit will be concentrated and owned by even smaller numbers of people.

Mark my words.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost · 29/09/2019 09:23

@painted yup- there aren’t any that are based in truth! I don’t get why anyone would vote for them- maybe someone will come along and give some reasons why they would vote for them Grin

longwayoff · 29/09/2019 09:23

He's on Andrew Marr just now, 'I didnt say that, surrender, no not me, surrender, blah'. Maybe he'll ask him about using public finds to pay his shag whilst Mayor. Sunday Times has evidence apparently.

Isitsixoclockalready · 29/09/2019 09:29

Johnson wants more investment in schools and the NHS, which sounds great. He has promised to spend but without raising taxes, which Tories are pretty much ideologically opposed to then presumably they will have to borrow and increase debt. Now that is all well and good but that isn't the fiscally responsible Tory party that we are supposed to expect.

longwayoff · 29/09/2019 09:30

Any body language experts watching him? Biggest smirk when he speaks of 40 new hospitals. Experienced parents will recognise this.

Paintedmaypole · 29/09/2019 09:38

Watching him bumbling on Andrew Marr show. The word "surrender" implies he thinks we are at war. No policies being mentioned. His attitude to womenHmm. IMO he is underestimating the intelligence of the average person and trying to whip up the masses. (and people say they are frightened of Corbyn). Where are his supporters on this thread telling us something positive that he has to offer.

AnneElliott · 29/09/2019 09:43

If you're genuinely asking op, I think you're asking on the wrong site. MN has a general view on political parties which means you're likely to be disappointed.

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2019 09:45

@AnneElliott - the thread about the awfulness of Corbyn is filling up fast!

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost · 29/09/2019 09:47

@AnneElliott I asked really to counteract the anti - Corbyn thread as, while I am not a labour or Tory voter, it literally amazes me that anyone thinks a Corbyn led democratic socialist government is worse than the current disgusting unlawful mysogynist tory shower of absolute horror

OP posts:
Paintedmaypole · 29/09/2019 09:47

AnneElliot have you seen the threads on here tearing Jeremy Corbyn to bits and worrying about private education. You would think that anyone with those opinions who is saying they would vote Tory every time would be able to point out a good policy...but, no.

Milicentbystander72 · 29/09/2019 09:51

I think it's perhaps the "go on. Justify yourself to me" tone. It's the same with the constant "Genuinely I'd like to know why people voted Leave" threads. Anyone who bites is just ripped yo shreds. It can be exhausting.

I'm a floating voter. I have no loyalty to any party. However I may vote Conservative. I'm keeping my mind open.

noblegiraffe · 29/09/2019 09:58

You want to counteract the Corbyn thread, ask what would be awful about a Tory government. Pretty sure that would fill up just as, if not more quickly.

GrandmaSteglitszch · 29/09/2019 10:07

millicentbystander, I'd genuinely like to know your reasons for maybe voting Tory.

SilverySurfer · 29/09/2019 10:09

GhostofFrankGrimes
Hopefully he’ll be the last Tory PM and Brexit will destroy the Conservatives. That’s a massive positive.

Don't hold your breath.

In answer to your question, OP, I am a Tory voter but not a Johnson fan. However nothing could convince me to vote for an economically incompetent, Corbyn led Labour or the one policy LibDims or the Greens with their batty policies.

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2019 10:21

Yes- I can perfectly understand why someone might vote Tory. What I can’t understand- and would like to- is why anyone would actively vote for Johnson.

Milicentbystander72 · 29/09/2019 10:23

Well, I'm waiting for after their conference, possibly a manifesto when the ge is actually called.

I lived through the 70's and I genuinely believe they are better with handling the economy than Labour. I don't love Boris, I think they'd be better off with a more moderate and dare I say boring leader like Hunt. I like Rory Stewart and Ken Clarke. I disagree that they should have been kicked out but we are in very weird times.

Brexit is Parliaments fault. Not just the Tories. Parliament voted for the referendum.
Parliament voted to trigger article 50.
Parliament voted down a Deal 3 times.

As for what good they've done. Well every party has been paralysed since Brexit.
If Boris actually puts his plans for funding increases for Education, Health and Policing in his manifesto then yes, I think it's good thing. As much as I'm not fond of Boris don't believe the rhetoric that he's evil made flesh.

I don't actually think he's had much chance to actually do anything yet. I'd like to wait and see. That's why I tend to keep an open mind.

.

Milicentbystander72 · 29/09/2019 10:25

Oh and if it's of any note - I voted to Remain.

Confusedbeetle · 29/09/2019 10:26

As soon as I saw your title I knew where you were with this. The language in the house was appalling on all sides. I despair if the lot of them, but he did not say the death of Jo Cox was humbug
