AIBU to buy a non branded fitness tracker?

Posting for traffic. OH’s birthday coming up next week and I want to buy him a fitness tracker. A quick look on Amazon shows I can spend £100+ on a Fitbit or £20 on a non branded version that seems to do all the same things. Is it worth paying extra for a Fitbit and if so, why? Or are you just paying for the brand name?

I bought a cheap one off amazon and found it didn’t give me useable data and it took several seconds to show heart rate for example. I decided to give Fitbit a try and the app is great. It shows everything instantly. I don’t know if I was unlucky with the cheap one I got, but on paper it did more (eg could do blood pressures) and reviews were great, but I’ve found the Fitbit much better.

You get what you pay for in most cases. The cheaper ones might do the same thing, but they'll do it worse and be more prone to messing up and breaking.

I'd say it depends on how into the fitness thing he is. I use a Mi Fit and it is just fine. My daughter has the MiFit 4 which is less accurate on the swimming than I'd hope but it works. Certainly enough to try it out if he hasn't had one before.
