To think this is gross?

DP decided to melt some butter in the microwave two days ago. It melted too much and was unusable. I assumed he had cleaned up the mess. Went to use the microwave today and found this...

Aibu to think that's disgusting? DP says he forgot but also said it's normal to leave butter out, so it's not that bad. I said - yes, in a butter dish!

I cleaned it and the microwave...

To think this is gross?

People forget stuff, it happens, I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist over it.

It's not THAT minging. Our bin men "forgot" to take the food waste caddy one week in summer and when I went to put a bag in it the next week there were maggots in....

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 28/09/2019 13:24

Yeah I guess butter is better than maggots Envy

Not an issue but he should have cleaned the microwave.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 28/09/2019 13:41

I cleaned it and the microwave...

Of course you did, that's why he left it for you.

PegasusReturns · 28/09/2019 13:42

I cleaned it and the microwave...

That's exactly why he didn't

billy1966 · 28/09/2019 13:44

And he'll do it again.

Tonnerre · 28/09/2019 13:46

Obviously he should have cleared it up, but that doesn't meet my definition of gross.

IceCreamMondae · 28/09/2019 13:47

Why did you clean it for him? Confused

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 28/09/2019 13:48

I usually do the majority of the cleaning, though he usually cooks and does the school run so it balances out. Was just a bit annoyed to see that today.

I cleaned it and the microwave...

I'm willing to bet he's 'shit at ironing' and you do it all, OP?

I wouldn't be bothered if DW did this because we split the housework fairly evenly and it would be a genuine error. Except ironing, I'm shit at that so she does it all :-)

WoollyFoolly · 28/09/2019 13:52

I'm pretty forgetful and can easily see me microwaving something then forgetting about it, no issues there.
however, he melted it, took one look at it and realised it was no good then DECIDED TO LEAVE IT THERE. and when you found it today he didn't immediately leap to sort out the mess like he would if he'd genuinely forgotten it? He again made the choice to leave it to you!

LellyMcKelly · 28/09/2019 13:54

How nice of home to leave you to clean up his mess for him.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 28/09/2019 13:55

To be fair, I don't iron where possible, I do all the laundry and dry and fold. He irons his own shirts for work. He says he left it because it was too hot to leave and then forgot about it. He was out today when I found it, so I cleaned it.

GruciusMalfoy · 28/09/2019 13:55

I could see myself forgetting this, I'd see it had melted too far then think "easier to clean when solid" and forget about it. However, I wouldn't let someone else clean up after me, I'd apologise and get it sorted.

Witchonastick · 28/09/2019 13:56

This is the reason I threw out the microwave and refused to get another.
Always left minging, only cleaned by me.

ffswhatnext · 28/09/2019 13:59

So when he does the cooking he never cleans up after himself?

Bluntness100 · 28/09/2019 14:01

Lol at folks desperately searching for a way he's bad other than this. So they can shout Ltb. 🤣

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 28/09/2019 14:02

He does sometimes load the dishwasher and if I'm not in he will clean up. Usually as he's cooked, I'll clean up as he tends to leave stuff on the draining board, which I dislike. I do more cleaning, but he does more driving kids to football training (including my kids who aren't his) and gets them up and ready in the morning - so I do feel I should do the majority.

Things happen. Not every moment is outcry. This is the least of the worst things that happened this week.

Rachelover60 · 28/09/2019 14:03

Not that dreadful. You can use it to sautee things for a curry (think 'ghee').

Nobody is perfect, farron.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 28/09/2019 14:05

Yeah I'm not saying it's the worst thing to have happened this week...it's fine, I've made my peace with him! It's a mild irritation.

Really?... If this is what is considered thread-worthy consider yourself blessed! 😇

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 28/09/2019 15:30

Spintops I can post a thread about whatever I wish and you have no idea what else might be going on in my life.

NoSauce · 28/09/2019 15:50

Good grief.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 28/09/2019 15:56

Good grief what? I've already said it's trivial really. I suspect you haven't read the thread.
