To ask for help with finances

DesperateforRugby · 27/09/2019 20:23

I am so desperate right now.

I've been off sick lately, and have absolutely no money.

I'm a rugby league fan, and it's the semi final tonight (it kicked off at 7.45) and because I've no money I've been unable to watch it.

It's just not fair. I work hard, I raise my kids and I can't even have this one thing for myself.

Can’t you find a stream online?

DesperateforRugby · 27/09/2019 20:32

Nope. I've looked.

Nothing.

Ask for help with finances from whom? Do you claim any benefits? What is your work situation?

ssd · 27/09/2019 20:41

Are you asking people here for money?

PostNotInHaste · 27/09/2019 20:41

I’m sorry, can’t help with the match tonight but can we maybe help with your general situation and see if someone can suggest something to help tide you through?

CannonCaboodle · 27/09/2019 20:43

Seriously? You're on MN to ask for money so you can watch sport?

DieSchottin93 · 27/09/2019 20:44

Are you on a zero hours contract?

PostNotInHaste · 27/09/2019 20:46

Let’s take it that she is asking for general help seeing if she can sort finances so not to be in this position again.

MrsGrindah · 27/09/2019 20:46

I would have thought if you had absolutely no money that feeding your kids would be worrying you more than watching rugby

DesperateforRugby · 27/09/2019 20:47

I was asking for help in general.

It's disheartening knowing you can't have something you enjoy.

I work bloody hard, yet I get a pittance of a wage, even less than usual because I've been off sick.

I can't afford anything nice for myself ever.

I claim CTC and WTC, but unfortunately I'm not entitled to any help with my rent etc unless I switch over to UC, which with the waiting period, I can't afford to do!

DesperateforRugby · 27/09/2019 20:48

MrsGrindah

I said I had no money, not that I had no food.

OP posts:
C0untDucku1a · 27/09/2019 20:48

Would you be able to get finding to retrain so you can get a higher wage?

PostNotInHaste · 27/09/2019 20:48

How would you feel about posting some details about your outgoings and what you have coming in to see if people can suggest things that could be changed ?

CandyLeBonBon · 27/09/2019 20:49

Oh dear. Lots of us work hard and can't have things we want.

DesperateforRugby · 27/09/2019 20:52

My outgoings are relatively low. And if not for being off sick I am usually ok, I muddle by.
But because I've been off sick I can't afford anything. My wage this month is 600 pounds. That's it. To support myself and 3 kids.

I don't get treats anyway, I just was really looking forward to this game tonight and was hoping to finally have something for me. But because I've been ill, I'm being penalised. How is that fair?

OP posts:
Thehop · 27/09/2019 20:56

I think “because I’ve been off I’ll I’m being penalised” is fair actually, if you don’t work you don’t get paid full stop.

I’m in a minimum wage job and don’t get sick pay. My dad died in a Thursday and I had to be in work Friday because I was a single mum of 3 and if you don’t work they don’t eat!

I do sympathise. It feels monumentally shut much of the time but you can’t expect sick pay in a minimum wage job. Nobody gets that.

Is there anything you can reduce or change?

cinderellainyellakissedafella · 27/09/2019 20:57

😆 seriously. If my finances were THAT bad the last thing I would be worrying about is the rugby 😂

PostNotInHaste · 27/09/2019 20:58

I get it, horrible when you’re ill and makes it worse when you can’t do something you were looking forward to. Nothing you can do about it though . Silly question as I know fuck all about rugby, it’s not in the radio so you can listen to it is it ?

Will you be able to work again soon so you will be ok next month ?

cinderellainyellakissedafella · 27/09/2019 20:58

Op I am also broke and would love a holiday to Bora Bora but I am not starting threads on mn to complain that I cannot afford luxuries.

OhTheRoses · 27/09/2019 20:59

What's been making you ill op?

Shoxfordian · 27/09/2019 21:00

Plenty of things I enjoy that I can't have

We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circs, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong. Though, we strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon.

DesperateforRugby · 27/09/2019 21:01

Nothing I can change or reduce. I spend as little as possible. my children all have additional needs which require travel to appointments etc. I don't drive (can't afford lessons, never mind a car) and I spend a lot of time working or running them around here there and everywhere.

It isn't fair that those of us in minimum wage jobs don't get sick pay at all. We are usually the ones doing the jobs that no one else will do, we are the ones slogging our arses off so I think sick pay isn't too much to ask.

OP posts:
CandyLeBonBon · 27/09/2019 21:04

I'm self employed op. I don't get sick pay either. My exP stole thousands from my business and I'm still dealing with the fallout 3 years later and barely keeping myself afloat. You are not the only one. I wouldn't start a thread on MN about it though because it's just an unfortunate part of life isn't it? Life is hard for a lot of people.

I'm sorry it's hard for you but no one on here has a magic answer.

PersonaNonGarter · 27/09/2019 21:04

OP, are you asking us for money? This won’t end well if so.

If you are asking us for advice, then change jobs.
