Bus drivers!

Okay someone here must know a bus driver and be able to answer my question. Busy london bus... full of people in fact, so full up that you literally couldn’t possibly squeeze another person on. The driver can barely get the doors shut. But yet they stop and try to let more people on!!! Then an argument starts... people start saying to the driver that there just isn’t any room left. He still lets more people on and it’s now got to the point where people are practically being pushed over. I know that my balance isn’t great and I feel very scared. Last week the driver was shouting at the passengers telling them to get off and let the new people on instead!! That didn’t go down well obviously. I just don’t understand if the bus is full and is NOT safe what idiot would still stop and let people on. ? He waits and waits thinking we will miraculously make more space. I swear I will never get on a bus again in my life it’s just a joke. I can see a frail elderly person being pushed over and being seriously hurt soon.

Who can I complain to about this and would tfl even listen? Am I the one being unreasonable?

I really hate when they do this with prams, like when there is only space for 2 then they let a 3rd one on who just parks across the doors blocking them

Was it one of those situations where there is space upstairs but everyone insists on standing by the exit door because "I'm only going a couple of stops" (ie Finsbury Park to Putney). In which case people need to go up the bloody stairs!

Complain.

By law (I'm not sure if the number is different depending on which uk country you are in) there is only a certain number of people who are allowed on a bus at a time (depending on the model of vehicle depends on the number)

Have a look at what is written next time you are on a bus because somewhere there is normally a set of numbers that specify how many people total but also people standing.
Most drivers follow the rules but some don't for whatever reason but they do once the company tells them there have been complaints.

As fiddlesticks says though if it's that people refuse to move up the bus then that's not the drivers fault!

On the buses I go on it says that it has capacity for 50 people standing. I know that with 30 it is already super squashed so not sure how they managed to calculate 50!

It wasn’t a double decker bus was just a normal one

There was no room it was just one of those moments when I actually wanted to go and ask the driver what his problem was and how can he not see this is unsafe. It happens every day so from now on I'm going to take the overground as it’s a bit better on there

Maybe someone wanted to get off.

It would help bus drivers if people moved up the bus, didn't use a seat for their bag etc. People tend to congregate at the front of the bus when there's lots of space behind them.

I totally agree, obviously I expected him to stop and open the back door to let people off but then we also had the issues with buggys too. People are so selfish sometimes and I get that the bus drivers have abuse constantly. I just wonder... if there physically is no room, where is the line drawn? Will we be expected to sit on each others laps to make more room? When I say there was no room I mean it. There was 2 buggys, a wheel chair and a bus full to the brim of people. I really would love to know how this is safe. I know it’s not. They were getting extra money from me from taking the bus however I will re plan my route from now on. So imagine if thousands of people did that then they might start to realise when they stop making as much money! Trying to squeeze us all in like animals in a moving cage all for money. I have a car but my work has no parking as it is in the middle of London. From the look of everyone on that bus ( except the driver ) I know they will all agree with me. Why aren’t trains this bad? Always seems to be this bus... perhaps it’s on a busy route at school time so maybe I'm travelling at a bad time.
