To be fed up of this Mumsnet pop up?

This pop up is appearing on my feed literally every few seconds and I can't read anything properly. Is anyone else getting this? I'm not sure I like the 'Oi you' either Confused

You're not alone, it's dreadful.

I have a decent pop-up blocker on my laptop, but it happens all the time on my phone. So extremely irritating, especially as it doesn't have an 'X' in the corner to press to get rid of it. I discovered that it goes if you tap three times (maybe it doesn't matter how many) on a part of the screen that the advert doesn't cover, but then that tends to mean accidentally clicking on a random thread that might well not be of interest.

I hate it, like pretty much all pop-ups. They invariably lead to a less enjoyable experience of the website than if they weren't there. They also always seem to pop up the instant you visit the site. The worst of all are the ones that ask you to fill in a detailed survey giving your in-depth opinions of the site, when you've literally been on it for 2 seconds for the first time ever and haven't been able to read any part of it, because of the huge pop-up blocking it. Depending on my mood, an annoying instant pop-up will often make me just close the tab and look for an alternative site instead.

If they could just have options to click on: A. Yes, sign me up; B. Not right now; C. No and don't show me this again - I wouldn't particularly object.

I agree, very annoying

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 25/09/2019 14:10

And I agree with the 'Oi you' completely. I presume it's meant to sound kooky and matey. It doesn't: it's just rude and gets your back up.

grumiosmum · 25/09/2019 14:14

YANBU.

I hate it.

@MumsnetTowers

plunkplunkfizz · 25/09/2019 14:19

It’s less annoying that Gerard Butler’s watch.

Fantasisa · 25/09/2019 14:22

I also HATE this. If someone shouted 'oi' at me in the street they'd get shortshrift - don't do it at me on Mumsnet.

I also think it sounds like a very masculine way to talk to women which also pisses me off @mumsnettowers.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 25/09/2019 14:23

Almost as annoying as the Tiny Pop advertising splashed across Active conversations. It doesn't make for subtle work time browsing!

GinDaddy · 25/09/2019 14:26

It's probably a new marketing person that has been given an incentive to get XYZ number of signups this quarter to show the advertisers that "we can deliver messages straight into people's inboxes" and charge them a premium for email inclusion.

As a result they've had to try and go super-punchy with their messaging to get the required number of signups.

Don't envy the person doing that job, you'll always have people (like myself) who don't appreciate the shouty vibe

Fantasisa · 25/09/2019 14:35

@gindaddy It could be achieved with a 'Hello!' or a 'Hullo!' rather than 'oi'

PooWillyBumBum · 25/09/2019 14:41

I’m getting the privacy notice on every chuffing screen!

Completely agree with you. Enough to make me leave the site, as on my phone I can't access the 'x' either.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 25/09/2019 16:03

I'm using the mobile site and not getting it, am I just lucky?

justmyview · 25/09/2019 16:06

Yes @PooWillyBumBum i get the privacy notice all the time. V irritating
