To think that Lady Hale is a great role model.

I have been so impressed at the way she has handled the case re the prorguing of parliament in the supreme court. No tub thumping and posturing. No big ego, clear, firm and intelligent. Found out more about her. She has broken down many barriers and campaigned against sexism in the judiciary. She attended a state school in Yorkshire, got a first at Girton and has challenged the inbuilt bias in chosing judges. The DM hate her for "subverting family values". Love her silver spider broach (Oh, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive).

30% of price not 30% of profit? Even better than I thought!

StillWeRise · 24/09/2019 19:26

link please

Turningtides · 24/09/2019 19:27

Brilliant woman and an inspiration to us all!

Geronimo8 · 24/09/2019 19:41

All Hail Lady Hale. Spider woman rocks. Must find a spider brooch.

Shoxfordian · 25/09/2019 07:47

Yeah she's awesome

lynsey91 · 25/09/2019 07:52

I thought the brooch was vile

She's incredible, and I want to be her when I grow up

idontbelievethisnsmeistaken · 25/09/2019 08:14

She absolutely is, but she also would be if she had judged (along with the others) that the proroguing was legal, however i doubt you would had started this thread in that case.

Paintedmaypole · 25/09/2019 08:20

I am not sure if I would or not to be honest. She was clear, firm polite and she made a complicated matter easily understandable. I always think that the sign of a great intellect is to make something complicated accessible to everyone . So often people with big egos try to do the opposite, i.e. make a simple matter complicated to exclude others and have a sense of superiority. I would have admired her anyway. I will admit though that I am pleased with the verdict and can't help having a dig at Boris.

I for one am grateful that OP did not start a thread calling Lady Hale an "unelected enemy of the people".

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 25/09/2019 08:46

Wearing spider brooches just might be indicative of intelligence. Lady Hale's fashion choice has reminded me of Cedric Villani, French mathematician, winner of the Fields Medal and arachnophile extraordinaire.

To think that Lady Hale is a great role model.

I would. Because I like intelligent people who can explain thing clearly. And I like seeing women in positions of power. And I like seeing older women in positions of power.I am confident that if she and her peers had unanimously judged the proroguing to be legal, to be legal, she would have been able to make me understand.

prettybird · 25/09/2019 09:02

There was one great tweet yesterday that dh showed me, with a picture of her delivering her judgement and the title Revenge of the girly swots Grin

Paintedmaypole · 25/09/2019 09:05

Yes to what BertrandRussell said. I couldn't have put it better. I regret muddying the waters with a dig at Boris. It is great to see a woman, and an older woman at that acting with such intelligence and grace in a position of power.

Did i miss all those posts praising Theresa May for ....anything ? Maybe she just didn't explain clearly enough. Melanie Phillips anyone ?

Are you really happy to see Priti Patel in a position of power ? She ticks a lot of diversity boxes.

It is OK to say that you like her because she delivered a judgement you happen to agree with. Old white people are often scorned when they deliver opinions that people don't like.

PerkingFaintly · 25/09/2019 09:26

Revenge of the girly swots

Now this pleases me.Grin

Yes, clearly you did.

Like the threads defending May when, for example, the Daily Mail did a front page about her legs. I've often seen her defended as a woman, even often by posters being clear that they abhor her politics.

BertrandRussell · 25/09/2019 09:32

Where does the diversity thing come in? Hmm And why are Theresa May, Melanie Phillips and Priti Patel relevant? I can be pleased that they have overcome the many obstacles in the way of women-and in particular women from ethnic minorities - while fundamentally disagreeing with everything they say.

Lady Hale was not expressing her opinion. She was delivering an impartial judgement. Which she did in a way I found admirable. I have no idea what her personal views are- which is as it should be.

Trewser · 25/09/2019 09:36

I liked her, quite admired the brooch and am absolutely sure that this thread wouldn't have been started if the verdict had been in favour of BJ.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/09/2019 09:36

Prime Minister Hale might be the only solution....

Paintedmaypole · 25/09/2019 09:40

I don't agree with Theresa May but I respect her for her hard work. I started this thread because Lady Hale has broken through so many barriers. Even on here you see older women being dismissed as "old biddies". She is a great role model IMO. I do not respect Johnson at all, for a variety of reasons. Yes, old white people do come in for a lot of scorn Idon'tbelieve so it's great that she displayed such intelligence and authority.
