There was quite a serious crime in our village at the weekend. I don't want to go into too much detail, obviously.

My neighbour along the lane may have seen something that would be useful and she told the police about it on Sunday morning. They said they would get back to her soon for a statement. Sunday and Monday passed with no one calling to see her.

Today at 3pm two came, wanting to take a statement and ask her questions. She said it wasn't convenient because she had to go to pick her child up from school. They tried to insist. She said no, she needed to collect her child. They asked if she had a neighbour or relative who could collect and there is no one. The school will only allow children to go with named individuals. She explained this.

One of them said they could insist. She got very annoyed at this and told them to leave. Which they did, eventually.

She now feels disinclined to help at all (although of course she will) but could they have insisted as one implied they could? What about her DC?

Police WBU, and can't make her give a witness statement. I am sure they desperately pressed for time but that isn't your friends problem.

Exactly what I thought, Waynetta. Very rude as well.

I hear nowadays there are these things called “telephones” which allow you to call another person and check if they are going to be available at xx time. It could save an organisation like the police a lot of money and wasted journeys in situations like this.Wink
